I found out about this organization, and blogged about it recently. Re-posting here! Namaste Kathmandu has been working to provide free education to the children in the slums alongside the Bagmati river in Thapathali in Kathmandu. So far, I have not heard of any other organization that has been working on a sustainable project for the immigrant families, who have been living a hard life in the area. The organization has established a school - Mechi Mahakali School - for the children in the slum area. The school works to provide free education, education materials, and lunch to these children, who would not be otherwise attending the school, if it weren't free. The organization also recruits volunteers from the US and Nepal to teach in the school - but also has a staff of three teachers to teach on a permanent basis in the school. Until now, 52 children from the village have been getting free education in the area. The organization needs more volunteers and funds to help the children and the community. Its next project is to establish a clinic for the members of the community. Please visit Namaste Kathmandu's blog to read more about the organization. Comments, insights, and funds that would enable the organization to help the children and the residents in the community would be highly appreciated. Email Xeno Acharya, the founder of this organization, if you want to engage with the organization. I have long been an advocate of small non-profits helping communities help them have a better life - especially communities that do not receive much help and support from the government, and who are by themselves not in a position to provide even the basic necessities of life for themselves. I extend to the organization the best of my wishes in going forward in what they are trying to accomplish, and will try to help in the small ways that I can. I hope, all of you, reading this post can contribute too! We need to change Nepal. One step at a time!!!
