Hi Folks, I am about to graduate in a month or so. My F-1 VISA has been expired but recently received a 'post-completion' catogory OPT authorization. As a next move, I have been offered a job recently in a school here in US that would last almost a year. Work related travel is a part of the job. So, here is a help seeking question. 1. What documents do I need to arrange to get a new VISA stamp on my passport ?
Note: school has issued a new I-20 which is good for one year.
Thanks for your suggestions.

U have graduated,Ur Visa has expired,U already got an OPT..So where does this I-20 comes in picture..of course u will still be in f-1 status , but i don't think u can get new f1 visa stamped into ur passport..based on I20...talk with ur employer and try to get some other category of visa..u said u have been offerd job from a school so why don't u try for h1b visa if they sponsor..u won't have to go through the quota and it can be granted any time..

pyaradeshbasiharu,
Thanks for your response. I am pretty sure you are aware of OPT. Let me explain briefly though. Even if you have OPT authorization, your status still would be F-1 right? So, as long as the OPT lasts, school has to issue a new I-20. Regarding the H1 visa, we are working on that part but as usual it might take some time to be authorized and I am in a position that may need me to travel soon after my contract starts. Since I have a kind of contract or job offer letter from my future employer and evidences to show I am a full time graduate student, I thought it might be a better idea to have my passport stamped with US visa. Therefore desperately need help to make a check list of doc.
Thnaks everyone

Lale, One of My friends had a similar situation..He was on OPT(3 months left on OPT), visa had expired, working for a private company, they were trying to get a different visa for him so that he would be able to work..i am not sure what category of visa it was, so try google for the visa that have work authorisation..I am pretty sure there will be whole bunch of them and since u are working for an uniersity , i don't think u will have trouble in getting the visa..Of course , u will be in f-1 status even if u are in OPT..What i am telling you is that, u might not be able to get F-1 Visa when u are employed for the university even if u are in OPT.. Best of Luck

yes, after graduation school gives out new I-20 dating till end of your OPT date. But just to be in secure side, its better to apply for H1 from your school and then apply for new visa. There are some possiblility that they might not issue visa based upon the job offer( from your school) which will last till OPT is valid( " Jb will last for almost a year").
H1B visas for non profit organization should not take more than a week to be issued. My roommate got his issued within 3 businessday.
Its your call. the ball is in your court ,you can play it safe or go " highway or myway".
Good luck.

Pyaradeshbasiharu,
I appreciate your thought. Thanks
When I apply for F1 VISA extension, I guess they would approve the extension until the date that my new I-20 expires, is that correct?
Bears23,
Thanks for the post. I expect some input from you too rather than showing off attitude. If you do not understand the question please lt me know. You may be right making that statement, " you have no idea what you are talking about". For your kind information, I m just trying to get information on the requirements that are essential to extend the F1-VISA. Provided, F1-OPT has been authorized and new I-20 has been issued.
Sorry if it is still unclear. thanks though

Lale, Man , ur in in OPT right now and those dickhead at USCIS have a record that u already graduated..U r already in OPT , of course it is F-1 but since ur Studies are over , i don't think u will be granted new F-1 visa on the basis of Ur I-20..So talk to ur International admission office and i am sure they will have a way out..If necessary better consult an immigartion lawyer, rather than jeopardise ur carrer..We r not an expert on immigration thing, just giving u suggestions based on what we know.. Hurry and talk to the international admissiion office at ur university..hope they are good.
