I live in the state of OH. I am currently working on OPT which expires on May 13,2008. My driver's licence also expires on the same day. I already got a receipt for H1b 2009 and under the new rule I can continue to work until my petition is either approved or denied (which I'm sure will get approved in the near future). I went to renew my driver's licence today and since these people are not aware of the new rule they asked for my new I20 or the h1b approval notice as the only valid documents to renew my licence. Since I don't have any of them, how can I get this issue resolved? I tried explaining to them but they would not listen.
Anybody having this problem?

Man, everytime i got to downtown to renew me lisence, I get in fight with the old grumpy women working there. Nobody really knows all the rule for visa-holders. I had to make them call the state capital after third visit and an hour of fight. Finally they renewed me lisence till 2012. So i will be good, good luck for ya.

zEr0,
Are you in OH? By the way I'm in Cincinnati. They did call the state capital in Columbus after my initial request but the problem is they never came across this issue. If this new rule were not in place, I would have gotten new I-20 anyway to remain in status. But they are not agreeing to issue the drivers licence with this automatic extension of status till Oct since my OPT card has an expiration date of May 13.
