IBM is the best as a machine as well with future support services. HP / Compaq has the worst support services. Await till the back to school Promotion comes, you may able to save 50-100 bucks at that period. Every companies will be trying to make monies with less profit margin with volume sale. Keep checking on reviews.

IBM - even after a few years, it will run almost like new. Dell - They have one of the best service record. The service people are nice and friendly. HP - Looks glittery but I'd go for IBM (if I had dough) or Dell (it is a good idea to get 3 year support thing though.. will save you lots later).

I have used Dell Inspiron and now using HP Pavilion dv2000 with some customized features addin on it. Although HP is a bit expensive; it is certainly a good decision to buy HP, not DELL. This is my experience. I am enjoying a lot with all of its featuers and fully satisfied with HP. HP is sexxy too!

I have the DELL the inspiron 640. It rocks. It is not that ugly as previous model of Dell. Anyway it is far better than HP. Also, compare the Price.

I have used NEC, DELL, Compaq, Acer, Toshiba, IBM, Vaio, Sharp and Panasonic. The best one among them is the Panasonic Let's note W5. The only drawback is it price, too expensive for many but performance as a laptop -- most reliable, durable, good looking, light weight, long battery life, compact design, etc etc.
