I prefer nepbiz.com for sending money to Nepal...Normally they will deliver money in 2-3 business days... service of muncha.com and moneytonepal.com is also good... westernunion charge more transfer fees ...

I used MoneyGram to send the money Last time. They charged me $30 for $1500. I think the charge was little high but the good thing is, money can be collected in Nepal immediately.

ATM Cards Yes my friends, you'll find it hard to believe but the ATM Cards of Australian Banks work in the banks of Nepal. I don't know much about the banks in United States. Lot of Nepalis here in Sydney get an extra ATM card from the banks like Commonwealth or Westpac or ANZ and send it to Nepal. You can withdraw upto 40,000 NRS at a time and for that amount banks charge AU$ 5 for a transaction. So no tension of agents. Good luck

Munchahouse also have lower exchange rate, so even they are 9.99, they are significantly lower than the rastriya bank quotes, so it is actually a lot.

I am doing different, Electronically we can transrer money in 2 ways, Wire transfer- It costs $ 50 for $5000 and Domestic transfer-It costs you $20 for $5000. Domestic transfer: Your families have to contact to the nepelese bank-Kumari Bank, standard chartered Bank, Himalayan bank etc and get the routing number of that bank and the name of their associated bank at New york. You can inquire about it with any bank you are dealing here and back home, too. You do not need to involve any individual if you choose this option. It costs a little more, but bank to bank transaction.

I've always used moneytonepal and they've been great so far. They've also changed their service rates so you might want to compare between muncha and moneytonepal. With the new change, it costs you less than $10 for over $2000 and $15.99 for $1000-$2000. Once the fund has been cleared from your bank/CC, the money is immediately available for pick up or delivery. I think Western Union is expensive and not a Nepali company, so I don't use it. Support nepalese businesses. Goodluck, Pal !

goodstuff, The idea of ATM seems cool. I am interested in this as I will be landing on Aus in few months. I will also see Munchhouse seems lots of friends here has recommended that as well. So in Muncha, the money is directly deposited in bank account of Nepal?

californication, I suggest you to go to a nearby bank in your City(In USA) and talk to the bank official about the" domestic transfer". More, person who is supposed to receive your money backhome must go to the bank and get the Intermediary Bank's routing number. When I read your post, money transfer via bank(domestic transfer) I suggested is more reliable and cheap, too. Muncha's is nearly $45 for $1000. I do not understand what you want to know? Write specific question. whatever you want to know, I will try to explain. I am suggesting you, whatever I have been through. Right?

Use bank transfers. Safe and easiest way to transfer the money. Ask the folks who are going to receive the money to open a bank account and ask them to send you the swift code (or routing code for the bank) for the bank and the account number. Transfer usually arrives in 1-3 days depending upon from where you originated the transfer and where you are sending it. In many banks you can also initiate it online. There is a charge of around 25-30 dollars at the originating bank. What would help is if the people who are going to receive the money open an account in a bank branch which is a correspondent bank to the bank from which you are sending the money. In this case your bank can take care of things like swift code and other stuffs. cheers Brat
