While Marriage holds more value and sentimens in eastern culture , or in this case , in Nepal than in western countries, there still is no guarentee that every marriage will succeed. like every aspect of life in nepal, marriage is also heading or being influenced by western cultures. A decade ago, while most ppl got married thru choices of their parents , and even if its the same case right now, ppl are aware or atleast vigulent to get to know the person for a month or two and decide, if he/she is the right person .

Good or Bad , ppl nowdays also explore the option of divorce, whatever may the reason be, both male and female have become more financialy/mentally/economically independent and confident ( atleast in the city) and might not be willing to share their life together , in a bad marriage, and consider divorce as a valid option.

Prenups are famous for directing how money and assets will be distributed upon divorce , though quiet not popular or practised in Nepal ( or may be i am just not aware of), the question still remains, should prenup be, or can we expect it to be start taking a vital shape in our culture or betwen us Nepalese.

I don't think so the word marriage, love or romance can go along with the word prenup. One kills the other one immediately. But again if you are willing to consider divorce, you might as well be open to prenuptial agreements.

Good that you broght it up..I was considering this...yeah although we are emoitonal and highly dramatical about social issues..the rights for women are particualrly no where..In most cases in nepal ..the buhari brings in a petty dowry and hubby will be responsible for her rest of her life..the father of the bride gives her away saying " paley punya ....marrey paap..."..or whatver..

suddenly..now the girl is driven by independence the modern nepali dads give her...education, freeedom of expressing..which is good..and also bad..if the hubby can keep up with her expectations..this issue ..doesn't have to be discussed...
In the same way...some nepali boys marry ..girls.. who are well education and a little bank balance ..but if she stops earning or increasing the balance...that cud be a problem..

Basically we are heading towards equality in society..men and women..i think its best to put down everything in paper for both parties..what is viable and what is not..not just fianncial things..but other issues..like will she be able to take care of sasus sasura well..will she comprise..will he. work towrads securing the future of the faamily...will she...are they both ready to give up singlehoood...extensive socilaizing..will she be happy with his pay..will he be happy with hers..

Even if you do not legally do the paperwork..its still good to put down everything to the last detail..so you end up with the same person with the rest of the life.... sounds like a lot of fun to me!!

I belive in having lot of life experiences....career / education or otherwise before getting into a marriage. BUT I Strongly also believe in the fact that Marriage is for Keeps. So do your homework properly!!!

i am not so sure about including the personal expectation, but i dont think its a bad idea to include the financail details, of both ppl involved, with agreement from both parties, as a pre cautioun.

I think prenup is not a good idea to go with. Well that shows insecurity and mistrust right form the begining of your new life.. For me marriage is eternal and like hush said do your homework first then u will never have to worry about prenup or any other things..Coz its all about a little bit of love, a little bit of faith and a little bit of understanding..
