Nepal was called Hindu Country for 200 years against our wish. We never liked it but they always called it Hindu Kingdom

Now for next 200 years , it should be called Islamic Republic of Nepal. Let us see how Hindus like it

Hey Aishwarya,

hmmmmmmmm so u want An Islamic Republic of Nepal with Sharia Law introduced?? Ok if u r true Muslim I can imagine your sentiment but r u true Islamic Citizen of Nepal. Do u know Islam means Peace and Tolerance.

Well, u r also advocating of getting 4 wifes being Muslim. Well, Koran also says that if u die killing non-muslims specially Jews, Christians and Hindus u directly go to Heaven through Mohammad to Allah and he gives 72 Virgin Islamic Girls in Heaven.

Do u really believe in that ?? I just wonder what kinda Allah god is that who can calculate the equation of needing 72 virigin girls for dead man in Heaven. Why not 365 virgin woman for each day or perhaps 365X2 times one for each day and night that would be amazing just fff....kkk day night long in Paradise. that would be real cool u know what mean. NOTHING TO DO just Keep on fu..king all day and night withou condom ofcourse and fill entire Heaven and Perhaps Hell to with Islamic Childrens.

May Jinn bless you for right Buddi. Insha Allah

Aish is not a muslim that I can say with 100% sure.

To other sensible guys here....
Dude I would like to live in hindu country nepal with the examplary religious tolerance... rather than a secular nepal with uncertainities. I am very sad to note that most christian organizations and muslim organizations have applauded the decision...

One natural question that comes to my mind is that why these christian organizations dont demand brazil, philipines, UK, etc to be declared secular. Why these muslim organizations never raise demand to make pakistan, saudi arabia, Indonesia etc as secular country? This is clearly double standards.

Girija babu has created a monster. I read some reports about BJP people protesting near indo nepal border against this decision. It is only a matter of time when the right wing will enter into nepal also. I am getting certain about this more and more. And then I would like to ask these stupid muslim organizations... what did you get by welcoming this decision... why could not you repeat your earlier commitment when you used to support ban on cow-slaughter? Even if all other sections supported this move... muslims should have stick to their earlier commitment... they should have not welcomed it... being most economically weak and not having much support like christians have from missionaries... muslims will be first victims of any rightist politics... Cheers to ignorant leaders that muslims have chosen for themshelves...

Grow up guys!

aadivasis-janjatis-dalits have been demanding a secular state for years now. It was one of the demands of the recent movement, but was subsumed under the banner “Samabeshi Loktantra.”

Going secular is good news for Nepal. this is an EXCELLENT news for both the marginalized muslim/ and historically persecuted christian community as well as for the aadivasi-janjati-dalits! mind you, enlightened brahmins/chhetris have also been in the forefront of a crusade for a secular state. you cannot have a 'samabeshi loktantra' with a hindu tag. how can you have over a dozen upa-dafas pertaining to Hinduism and ONLY ONE pertaining to Buddhism in the now-nearly-defunct constitution (thank God), and not a single one for Islam or other religions? Tagging Nepal as a "Hindu country" is discriminatory and offensive to countless other religions!!!

grow up again dudes! that 85% of the population of Nepal are Hindus is a myth - no matter what the manipulated figures in the population censuses taken during the hindu regime show. Don’t you get it? It was on this and similar other heaps of lies that the legitimacy of the Palace and the God-like status of the Shah Dynasty was built! you must know that the state-sponsored population censuses have always been mired in controversies - and even the National Planning Commission have had to admit to this fact on more occasions than one.

“Katmar” under secular Nepal? Again grow up dudes. at least, this is a good first step toward abolition of the apartheid of South Asia (caste system) which stems directly from fundamentalist Hinduism, which has been given protection by the palace. there has been more “katmar” under Hindu Nepal than you can even document. Kotparbas, royal massacre, revolts! Even animal rights activists are scared of the voracious appetites of hindu gods and goddesses such as Kali Mata. Haven't you heard of the allegations that Mr. Bharat Keshari Singh's groups were involved in the murder of Mr. Pokhrel, who had financed many education institutions across Nepal through organising of "Yagyas”. I think the new Nepal Government must look into this allegation and bring the culprits to book.

shiva sena resides in pointlessness in India. they are a spent force. hindu Bishwo Parishad also resides in pointlessness. certainly, Secular Nepal may open up possibilities for religion-based politics and give rise to Nepali BJPs. But there are also countervailing forces in Nepal. You guys have to remember that the Dalits - aadivasis - janjatis - muslims - christians are a formidable force and they have the numbers. enlightened Brahmins and Chhteris are okay with the secular tag, and are even saying that this is best for the country. Maoists as well as the large swathes of rural population they have a sway over have welcome this Secular Tag.

So to say that Nepal is imposing a "Secular" tag on a country with 87% to 97% Hindus is a heap of statisitical lies. Did I also mention women who are fed up of patriarchy, which had been given a boost and protection by the palace and its god-like King. mind you, the non-Hindu minorities are increasingly empowering themselves, organising themselves and asserting themselves, thanks to the space created for them by the 2046 movement. Aadivashis-janjatis alone make up 37% of the population. Dalits make up 20%. Women make up almost 50%. Christians and Muslims are rapidly growing in numbers. So with figures like these, it is not scientific to say that Nepal is a "Hindu" country. Anyway this has nothing to do with science. Turkey’s muslim population may actually exceed 90% but it is still a Secular Country.

I don’t think Secular Nepal will create any long term problem – it may create a short term problem. I say Secular Nepal will not pose problems in the long term because
even though Nepali BJPs may come to power (every dog has its day) in Secular Nepal - so what? Many BJPs have come and gone in India - but India is still a secular country.
The dog barks but the caravan moves on. Only in Secular Nepal, can we have equal respect for all religions, all cultures - thus enriching the diversity of Nepal in the face of homogenizing effect of globalisation. This is a very positive thing! Otherwise what difference is there between people who argue in this thread that Nepal is a “Hindu Country” and should remain so, and our successive kings who have always acted like they own Nepal – that Nepal is their “birta”.

Lest people counter that going Nepal secular under is “indianisation of Nepal”, it helps to remember that Nepal has been more indianised under Hindu Nepal. I have actually overheard Paras say, “I’m married to India.” He meant this both literally and figuratively. You must know about the Sankacharyas from South India, who exercise control over the running of Pashupati Nath. And it was the Sankarcharya from South India who introduced Hinduism’s ugliest aspect –Caste System – in Nepal. Hell, it was with Hinduisation of Nepal that Indianisation of Nepal began. This happened long ago – ever since the Hindu Kings of India were chased out of India by the Mongol (or Moghul) herds. So if people on this thread argue that Nepal going secular is “indianisation of Nepal” needs to get an update - reread their history.

HINDU tag is an idea whose time has gone. Gone with the wind! I never felt proud to hear the line “Nepal is the only Hindu country in the world”, and I have never ever said it.

Who know if Hinduism may actually flourish under Secular Nepal – paradoxically speaking?

I have no doubt that pashupati nath temple will acquire a much cleaner and more respected image under Secular Nepal. Under the kathit “Asal Hindu Rastra Nepal”, pashupati nath temple had become a poster boy of mismanagement, fraudulence, chakribad, corruption, sins, thanks to the palace and palace-propped puppets. when count draculas like Bharat Keshari Singh & the palace puppets masquerade as spokespersons for "ASAL HINDU Rashtraya", this is what happens – they ruin/dirty the image of Pashupati Nath temple and, by extension, of Hinduism. They allowed the holy Bagmati River/Sali Nadi to be polluted. Where do you think all that money that the devotees offered to Pashupati Nath temple went? No point for guessing correctly. The money that could have been used to clean up holy rivers. Declaring Nepal a “SECULAR NEPAL” was a quick way to drive a stake through the hearts of these draculas and their false-god-king and their institutions, and thereby prevent their sullying the image of Hinduism further.

Under Secular Nepal, we may finally have the chance to restore Hinduism, and thereby Pashupati Nath, Bagmati & Sali Nadi, to their pristine glories and coexist peacefully (more than ever before) with other religions and cultures?

Have you thought along these lines at all guys?

May Pashupati Nath give you the inspiration to think along these lines as well!
------------------------------------------

regarding Yusuf's posting:

he BJP and the WHF have no use pointing finger at the Nepali government. The Indian government is not going to listen to these militant fundamentalist Hindus or the party or organisations they are affiliated to. These entities are a disgrace to the ENLIGHTENED MODERN SECULAR INDIA. Their relevance is fast disappearing from India itself. The fanatical Hindus are exposing themselves for who they are: religious bigots, supremacists, promoters of the apartheid in south asia, one based on caste!

These guys are raising the spectres of ISI and Maoists. Well this is nothing new. It is not like we didn't have ISI and Maoists under HINDU NEPAL.

The Indian government does not have the moral authority to interfere in the matter of whether Nepal should be a secular state or a Hindu or a Buddhist or a Muslim or a Christian state, since India itself is a Secular State, and thank God for that. Moreover, India-protected country Bhutan, too, is on the way to becoming a secular state. Nepal is not alone in this.

So I don't see how the Indian government will exercise leverage on this matter over Nepal. Since India is a democratic country, it was natural for it to support our government's latest declaration (which brought powers to the people). But since India is itself a secular state, it would not be natural or right for it give in to these fundamentalist Hindus's pressures. If the current government (say Congress) of India gives in to these guys even an inch, this party are gonna write its own demise at the next general election.

Of course, I have no doubt the Nepali government will ignore the calls of these BJPs and WHFs - lest they drag Nepal into a greater "shit-hole" they are currently in. Nepal is rising, the hindu fundamentalists are sinking, and are now grabbing desperately at a straw.

Did you see the Indian government raise a quota for the backward castes in medical schools? This is an example of the enlightened India!

In short, this is nothing more than a lame BJP ploy to stage a comeback to power in India.

If they have to depend on an event happening in Nepal to stage a comeback, how hopeless must their situation be. This is anybody’s guess!

Check this out. Some Indian fundamentalists are extremely angry about what we have achieved in Nepal. Hinduunity.org, as many of you may all know, promotes Hindu nationalism.

"government will not pick up the cudgel, its upto The SHIV SENA, VHP, BAjrang DAl, BJP and other so called HIndu Orgs. to show their mettle, Kick out nepalese fromtheir respective states, And to fellow forummers Pls show no sympathy to the Nepalese They were the very people who brought this upon them, let them repent this in leisure now.

Second and most Important, Close the free Border Between india and Nepal, These above named PArties and Orgs. to make it an issue blow it up, agitate for this, See to it that, Nepalese dont have free access to India anymore, Let them Strave, They dont deserve any less than This. They have pained us, and its PAYBACK time. "

One thing though, I don't thing we should be looking at India for guidance in terms of how we should run our country. India has had more problems with regards to ethnic/religious/sectarian conflicts. Having said that, secularism is the way to go.

of course, secularism is the way to go. Thanks for affirming this, knt!

these Hindu Indian fundamentalists are threatening to kick out Nepalis (even Hindu Nepalis) from their home states. this only goes to expose them for who they are: hindu Indian nationalists, who are trying to take advantage of an event happening in Nepal to stage a comeback to power in India.

you think they have the Nepalse Hindus' interests at their hearts? think again!

the sooner the hindus and hindu orgs of Nepal disassociate themselves from these FUNDAMENTALIST India-based hindu organisations - peopled by suspremacists, bigots, promoters of patriarchy, and practitioners of apartheid based on caste - the better it is for Nepal.

these fundamentalists have been playing up the Hindu card to control/influence Nepal for ages (ever since a certain Sankracharya came to Nepal) - but in Secular Nepal that may no longer work.

of course, the Indian government is not going to listen to these rabble rousers. India is a secular state, and thank God for that- so I don't think the indian government will pay heed to their rabblerousing. which is how it should be.

Why are you bashing them and hinduism? Frankly my family members will react voilently if someone declares saudi arabia a secular country. The indian hindus might have similar feelings towards nepal... They are just making fuss and will cool down. But what if the fire catches on in nepal? There is huge possibility that it could... especially as such religious clashes can give some hold to king who has been completely marginalized... I had never believed that nepal will be declared secular country except in the case of maoist takeover. I was surprised by this declaration.

Isn't it ironical that Muslim nepali are against secular nepal. I am too a supporter of secularism But if it comes with a cost of uncertainty and possibly a religious intolerance i would rather choose nepal to be a hindu rastra.

mandalays are doing a good job here instigating hatred to get support for their king. now even the ones who were against the king might support monarchy because of this issue.

thank you maoist for all this nonsense

I think new government whoever come in power, will conduct real census base on the indeneous people's number not their language, it is truth there more Buddhist than Hindu,in Nepal but Hindu government manipulated that census, for instances, all Magars were, Buddhist, Gurungs were Buddhist, Thakali were Buddhist, Tamangs are by born Buddhist, Sherpa, Helmoli, Managi, Mustang, half Kathmnadu's Newar are Bajrayan Buddhist, and Kirati Dharma also not hindu religion, recently mass Bell Bivaha was concluded at Hare Ram Temple but priest was Barun Bajracharya, even though all parents were Hindu but that particulars event was perfomed by Bajrayana priest. Be happy, in democratic society, secular is the beauti of it, Nepal is one nation under god

Nobody is asking any religions state by now except hindu? what made you think that hindu are tolerant..if you are tolerant you will easily accept nepal as a secular state??? what makes you feel like other religions is going to kill????? right now people like you hardliner are not happy??? did you take survey from all nepalese????? it seems that you are also against buddhism...so far other religions never said that they hate hindu???? while janajatis and minorities are happy and people like you creat real division among people..

I dont agree with Birkhe that there are more Buddhist than Hindus in Nepal. have you done census all by yourself to say that. You must have said that on hearsay report or on your own assumptions. But there need to be deep investigation on such sensitive matter. Right!! In terai--many people are hindus, same is the case in Hilly regions.

Especially Brahmins and chhetris hindu followers overtake the other religions' follower. Many Newars--Manandhar, shrestha, Dongol, Jyapus, are the mega followers of Hindu along with brahmin and chetris. Hey do not underestimate these lot.

Karmapa--I agree with you but not fully. Mohammad and yusuf--if you guys are the real muslims then I respect your sentiments that means you have got more insight than other Hindus have. Anyway, now transformed into a secular state, Nepal is no longer regarded as the world's only Hindu Kingdom and I take it normally if followed by no further religious instigation and turmoil .

if you show the example of muslim country..so what about USA where you are living right now ?.? this country is full of christians but this country is secular state ???? and about nepal ...don't forget that there are many people who follows buddhism? why do you want to divide the country based upon religions when there are large number of follower of both hindu and buddhism????and i have been telling you don't foget the point our country is also the birth place of buddha...how will you define your country to most of your american friends..as a hindu country or as a birth place of buddha or country of mount everest???? AND YOU SAID THAT WE WERE SETTING EXAMPLE?? you can't even tolerate nepal being a secular country that means you are not ready to accept the other religions equally....

Why our country needs to be only hindu country after all india has largest population of hindu..they can just make like a jew state or like any muslim country...and i respect every religions....if you look carefully in our country the northern part of nepal follows buddhist, the mid part both hindu and buddhist, and terai part hindu....and agian i want to tell you religions is sensitive things...
i don't want to discuss anymore.....peace....

Let me give you how Nepal say 90% of the population is Hindu, which if you have common sense is a total lie.
When I was a child, I remember the census come to my home and wrote down everybody's name of my family and without asking anything, I literally saw them write "HINDU" as the religion which we were not. Now I found out, the whole neighbourhood of Buddhist was checked for Hindu. I was just a kid to understand at the time. Imagine how that 90% figure come now.
Just want to tell if you still believe that 90% as the correct figure, then you're deceiving yourself.
