Is it worth buying gold in Qatar airport?
A cursory look at the price suggested not much difference in gold price there and Nepal. If so, why are Nepalese people crazy about buying gold overseas, mostly in Middle East and Hong Kong. Am I missing something?
In addition, should I decide to buy, what quantity is permissible without paying taxes?

If you buy gold in bar (1 oz), I think you can sell at higher price and make a profit upto Rs. 5000.00/bar. Plus its 99.99999 percent pure which I believe you do not get in Nepal even if you buy 24 ct. That makes a different if you want to buy and sell. If you want to make a jewelry, then do not use the gold bar you bought, you never know how much foreign element they mix (jarti) and its not worth. So, if the gold price is low in the international market, then buying and selling in future is one of the opportunity for investment bot not the best one.

@Sajha keto, yes, they do have gold/jewellery shops, possibly some self-service kiosks too.
@intelligentguy, hahah....that might be for smuggling a whole lot of Au but Nepalese citizen returning home are allowed to bring few ounces with them but not sure how much.

Buying gold at the airport duty free is always expensive and not worth. Check for the international rate before buying.

कतार डियूटी फ्री मा कीनेर नेपाल मा गएर बेचदा खासै फाइदा छैन ।
यदि अल्फर्दान मा गएर किन्न सकियो भने सुन सस्तो मा पाइन्छ ।
