I am in the same boat as you Mr 2. The only problem I seem to have is my OPT got lost in the mail and I had to wait 3 more months for the OPT card to show up. Please keep us updating on the choices you make and how they turn out for you.

Well, the decision is entirely yours. You have to weigh the pros and cons though. I'm a non IT major and I chose to go the consultancy route some 2 years back. I was paranoid, nervous, excited and what not. But turned out it was one of the best decisions I made in my life. Not only I'm working for the same Company for two years but I've learned so much technically and living a lifestyle that I wouldn't expect living otherwise. You need to take calculated risks. It's both your performance and fate. I've had a friend who was dropped from 3 jobs in mere 8 months. Yes, luck needs to chime in for you as well.
But if you believe in yourself why not take a chance ? I would say go for it and see how it works for you.

yea, like ^^ said, the decision is entirely upto you. But if you look at the good and bad sides of it, in the end, I would definitely recommend going the consultancy route, as long as you get into a good consultancy. A lot of factors come into play as to how long you will survive in the job such as your luck, co-workers, expectations from you, your work load, your work environment, your communication skills and your ability to learn new things. So depending on all of these factors, your fate might not be the same as your unlucky friends.

Good Luck!

Consulting job is all about your luck. Some people are so lucky that they don't even need to work. They spend almost all time watching moving and reddit in work!!! May be they need to fix one bug in one week of time. but for some people its entirely different. Even thought you work hard and you work 15 hrs a day, it might not work. I have seen both kinds.
My suggestion would be if you think you have some luck, they definitely you can go for it. Also, if you are a smart person(gpa near 4.0 in any field) you can go for it. I am sure you will do lot better and you will get lot to learn too.
but if you have hard time leaning new things, then it might not be a good option. bt still you can try. you might failed many time. Morally you might feel low bt you need to hold tight. bt at the same time you would be learning too. this way is quite tough, bt at the end you would be a good IT professional.

I would recommend anyone who is unable to find job go to the IT route. Rather than working for some 8-10 dollars per hours its better to earn 25-30 per hour. You will find lots of challenges. But that's how the new person will be born. If u love challenges and ready to learn new stuffs, you are always welcome to the IT field. But make sure, you need to work at least 6 months to year just to be little settled. I was kind of hesitant too in the beginning. But now having worked for almost 3 years, I would recommend anyone to join the consultancy.
Also, look for IT companies that provide good training and you give your interview on your own. No mock interviews. This will screw you.
