Call Sprint customer service , tell them you are travelling internationally and ask to unlock the phone. They are very co-operative , will guide you through each and every step. Actually Last year I unlocled my phone withen one month after I got it and used in Nepal ! They wont give you hard time as AT&T does !!
Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestion. But I got it from ebay, used. So, I don't think I will be able to do that.

Unlocking CDMA iphone (sprint and verizon) is not easy and cheap too. It cost you $150...its funny though. Sprint doesn't process your request more than one. I requested them to unlock but it didn't work.

Yea, that's what I heard. I just got an iphone 4s to send to nepal. I thought unlocking it would be a piece of cake just like the earlier iphones. How wrong was I?? Anyways, no tech gurus out there who might have an idea of doing it? :D

Megaaadi, first step: you've to have an Sprint account so that you can activate the iPhone 4s in that account. After that, you've to call Sprint international support department and tell them that you're travelling abroad and needed to unlock the device. They'll verify the device esn if imei number and submit the unlock request to Apple. After that they'll tell you to wait for couple hours and restore the device but it takes just about 15 minutes. After you restore the device, It's good to go. Hope that helps. It's really not as difficult as you think.

No its not pice of cake for CDMA Iphones.. even if you unlock, those iphone can't use inside usa. Another possible option is to use Chip (like gavey sim, if you have heard) but downside of the chip is you can't upgrade in future which is considerably cheap and cost around $30.
