I do have a question regarding the attestation of transcripts and certificates.  Since I'm applying to PhD, I need to attest my transcripts. Though I have a  Master's degree from the USA, the universities require original transcripts (attested in the case of Nepalise certificates) from all the universities attended. I have heard the embassy of Nepal in the USA does this work, but cost $25 for each copy. My problem is that I'm applying to at least 13 universities ( as we know becasue of the funding, the universities are accepting only few applicants, thus more competitive. Besides, I'm in English department which gets the largest numbers of applicants in comparision to others), becasue I don't want to take risk by applying to only few.  Now,  I need to attest the transcripts and certificates of interlevel (2), Bachelor (2) and Master's (2) multiply by 13 is equal to 78 copies, which will cost almost $ 1900. OMG, it's weird.

Do you have any idea, how can I do this work at a low cost?

I would really appreciate your time and suggestion.

your university should have people who notarize duplicate, ie, attest duplicates when you present the original in front of them. these people are called notary public. just ask in your dept and they should be able to direct you towards these notary people. every univ has at least 2-3 of these people, so worry not. and oh, these people (inside college) notarize your papers for free.

in case your school has none of these, just google for notary public in your area and you'll see a long list. these private notary guys charge about 5-15 bucks for notarizing all your paper, depending upon the no. of papers.

As bhighari said above public notary is the way to go. Some banks (eg. Chevy Chase) do public notary for free for their customers. So, contact your bank to see if it provides such service.

I was able to notarize my documents for free from my bank. Ask your bank if they provide that service.

I agree with you Rahulvai. The universities expect original trasncripts from the institutions attended. When I asked my unversity today, they said they can attest my transcripts of Nepal. But now I need to confirm if the universities I'm applying accept such attestation in place of original.  if not, sending documents to Nepal and having someone to do these stuffs from TU, Jamal is a good idea.

I also had sent the photocopies of the Transcripts BUT
In my case, the guys in there said they need to see the original documents(Transcripts) along with the photocopies.

My brother could not convince the guy there. Many of my friends were able to get it done with only photocopies.

There are certified  agencies that verify and evaluate the transcripts and certificates from foreign schools and colleges. After they verify the certificates, you can always submit those certified copies they send you ( or u can forward it to the universities u intend to enroll). As told by others, it depends on the universities and their policies. Some of them do accept the sealed transcripts from the universities like TU, but they evaluate it and its not sure if all ur credits will be transferred.I used this agency called spantran to evaluate my certificates. I am not into masters and PhD but that's what I know about evaluation of foreign academic certificates.Some colleges require this but some of them evaluate themselves. 

And is anyone interested about attesting to border encroachment, the sufferings of our people. May be we are too busy to care.

What are the options u think...............what we do now... a big ole fence between India  and Nepal.....or a war ( we know the enemies(or are they?) and their capabilities, don't we)...or call other nations for help....Or how bout doing Chakka Jams and Bandas.....These leaders are not gonna do anything but watch from ktm ....The whole government and the cabinet is run by India and u are talking about border encroachment.....What did we do so far to expect for doing something now.....I think I know what's gonna happen.......There will be couple of protests in ktm and border areas...even Bandas to force government to take action...And the only action will be a talk btn Ktm and New Delhi.....Kalapani and Susta will be the same as it is now...People living by the border will be decided what nation they belong to and will be given the citizenship and it'll be all over with new Pillars on the borders....... what other option do u see.......What should we be doing......??????????

yesterday, I did  attestation (notorization) on some of my documents copy. I went to Bank of America where I have my account they did the notorization free of cost. I forgot to photocopy a copy of my passport so i had to go back home while returning I though I should try wells fargo bank they also did free of cost.

my friend lives in LA he went to notorize but both the bank didnt agree to notorize his documents. he is going to pay 10 dollars per document at notorary office.

 

If you have any problem to attest your documents pls. post me all copies of your certificates, then i will attest and sent you right through. I am noatry public of Nepal. The Government of Nepal has authorized me to attest, verify and translate any document which are issued by any authority of Nepal and all over the world.

While I was applying, I attested my certificates from US Educational Foundation. They even wrote a letter for each set (Because I was applying for 10/11 univs, I had that many sets) stating that Universities in Nepal don't give original certificates...........(I don't remember the details).

follow these steps to get your transcripts attested.
1. make copies of your transcripts, documents in the number u require.
2. take these copies and originals to the bank where u have maintained ur account.
3. ask the bank to attest them .
4. don't panic, your bank will feel honor to notarize them for you.
5. do the work smartly and save energy.
