No, you need to maintain the green card for three years before you can apply. For the ones who got GC through employment, it's 6 years of wait.

You would be eligble to apply for US citizenship in 2012 (5 years after you recieved your Green Card however, you can start filling citizenship after 4 years and half ). There is no other way to get ur citizenship early unless you go and join any branch of armed forces.

Bhakte,

If one gets GC through marriage, it's three years, not five.

You can apply after 2 years and 9 months.

Here we go again. Nepalese displaying our own finest tendencies of being self-proclaimed experts regardless of us having little or no knowledge at all. Why are some mor0ns giving untrue suggestions?

Bhadgaunle, you can apply for your citizenship 90 days prior to your third marriage anniversary. ( i.e. 2 years and 9 months ).

Good luck.

First of all, why in the world people ask such questions on Sajha while you can get correct answer from official home page. Dude just go to USCIS.gov and look for form N400 and read filing instructions.

Second, smart alec like Bhakte love to answer the questions even though he doesn’t have any clue but to give wrong answers.

Bottom line is dude look on you Green card and look for Resident since…., go by the date. Regardless of years you have been with her, INS go by the date 'Resident since'. if you are still married to the same US citizen you can apply after 2 yrs and 9 month, if not then 4 yrs and 9 months.

Bisal,

He knew he could get information from USCIS, but he still came here to get some information. We all did our part by giving him the information that we knew. I wasn't wrong, if you have GC you can apply in 5 years (can start process in 4 years and 9 months). I didn't know if he was still married or not. I knew what I was talking about coz' I already got my citizenship 3 years ago. Been there done that.

Peaceout.
