March 18, 2012 By: nirmal

I'm Sorry! These words are extremely powerful. As I get older I understand the value of that phrase even more and realize how important it is in everyday life. The phrase holds just as much weight in business relationships as it does in personal relationships.

People make mistakes. We all know that no one person is perfect. We could go on and talk about what "perfect" really means but lets focus today on the above phrase. Mistakes happen and owning up to it builds credibility and trust. When you make a mistake and own up to it, it also makes the other party become less defensive.

Now let's put the phrase into context!

I recently went to a restaurant in Koteswore. I ordered momos and a mineral water. The food came on time and the momos were good. However, there was a string of hair on one of the pieces of momo. I let the server know about the issue and he was puzzled on what to do or say. I was unsatisfied with the way it was handled because he did not say anything and just stood there. I diffused the situation and just told him that it's okay. Then as I was finishing the rest of the momos (other than the concerned one), the server came and told me that the string of hair was actually something from the momo wrap and not real hair. I was amazed.

I will not recommend this restaurant to my friends because of one simple reason. The server did not acknowledge the mistake. If he had simply said, I am sorry that something was on the momo. How can we help make your experience better?, I would have understood that it was just human error and nothing intentional. I would have been more likely to revisit the restaurant or tell my friends about it because the momos were actually good. But the fact that the server did not own up to the shortcoming, I was compelled to write something about it.

In a time when restaurant sales have taken a hit because of new drinking and driving regulations in Kathmandu, any restaurant that is getting customers should be providing extra customer service to anyone who walks through their doors. When the food takes longer than usual or something ends up on the momo or any food plate that should not be there or if something unpleasant happens to ruin the customer experience, just own up to it and say I am sorry. It's good business.

Everything well put and agreed. Just a little thought though, based on my own experiences. A lot of us live outside Nepal and enjoy the system and the culture that is already built for us.We have to remember that,  not all of us are that equally blessed nor  do we all have the degrees in the fields involved-unfortunately. I wish it was like that but the fact is  it isn't. Last year I was back in Nepal and with limited time I had a mountain of works to be done. I am sure you get the picture when it comes to getting things done in Nepal when  the time is framed from your end and initially I was frustrated/mad and what not. Eventually,I realized the problem was me and not them. Just because I have seen a better world does not mean the on going process for years should change over night nor do I deserve any better. I am not implying that we have to keep empbracing the "stautus quo" but as we seek  improvements, lets not forget how our system is built and lets try to help each  other, teach other  in improving our selves and our society. If its a mom restaurant, as a learned citizen it is our responsibility to share ideas on how things could be improved that will ultimately will be a win-win situation for both sides. It is not always easy preaching or giving advices in Nepal,I get it but if we are following that road to perfection, we all have to do a better job than just be a mere spectator to all the ongoing odds.Just a thought!!!

I wonder parakhi dot com is some friend or relative of  San, owner of sajha.com. When i posted my website link long time ago, he termed it as against sajha policies and removed the link and now i am seeing his blogging website all the time with the threads.

What's up with the Favoritism, San bro???

No offense to parakhi dot com, the website is pretty darn good.

Peace

The blogger raises a valid issue - that of customer services and truth be told, a huge majority of businesses fall short when it comes to providing quality customer services. Those who've valued their customers are likely to be more profitable.

May be you're the first one to complain about hair.

My brother who used to vomit when ever he saw a piece of hair, once he graduated from the acdemy of police force  his issue on hair was gone.
One day i joined his Mahendra Police Club kitchen, and he pulls a long hair from his mouth and said  "एई तेरो आखा फुट्यो कि क्याहो , २ फुटे रौ पनि देखिनस, to the kitchen master.

Hi Sirus_me

Regarding your question about parakhi.com postings in sajha, please be advised that you are allowed to provide "credit" to your site as long as you post the whole article content in sajha.com and provide a credit at beginning and end.

Most of the time people simply want to post a link to promote their sites directly or post part of the article and ask people to click to see more. Those are simply promotions and more than few of those will be asked to stop or action taken to stop.

However if someone posts like parakhi and simply provides their link back as 'credits' then those are fine in sajha. It's not a case of favoritism

I hope that answers your question.

Best Regards
