I did not realize cyber nepali has already started this thread...anyways we need to get the word around. This is just too shameful being a Nepali now. Simply saying we are the country of Mount Everest, the roof of the world to reaffirm our conviction that we are indeed a nice and proud country is not enough. Face it guys we are the most corrupt country in the world.

as naive as it may sound but why is this thing all around the web after they got caught in the costum?? why nobody knew bunch of philanthropist were carrying some 30 laptops to donate to poor village school in nepal before they got caught?? had it been public before they solely took this huge step single handedly we could have ran a campaigne and gathered some more laptops, as a matter of fact i have one laptop sitting in my house doing nothing, i would have donated that. what if those laptops were being transported for anything but donation ?
@junkyfunky: u r running out of ur battery buddy !

Fat beast, May be you are questioning the intention here because you have not known of the work Maggie is doing in Nepal. It is always good to be skeptic though.

Before denouncing the Nepali govt, has anyone done any research on why the whole shipment was confiscated? I don't know what exactly happened but I am willing to see it from the other side too in case it was not an outright case of corruption.
- Maybe maggie did not get correct approvals to transport these goods. Imagine yourself coming to the US with hundreds of laptop and telling the customs that these are donated for children. Would they allow it without proper paperwork?
- There is no question that she's doing some great things to the children of Nepal, but there are always processes that everyone needs to follow to bring in such electronic goods.
Here's to hoping everything can get worked out soon and the laptops get released to the children.
Kudos to Maggie for her effort!

I am with grg dai on this one! you can't just point the finger at the customs officer based on assumptions. Lay out the facts first and accuse.

If that is what you were saying FB then that is a very good point and we don't have enough information to form a proper opinion.
I was only adding my view earlier because you were questioning the motives of Maggie, and not the process (as far as I understand).

Everyone please write to the Nepal Customs -

The Department of Customs under Nepal's Ministry of Finance has decided that they will not return the 32 refurbished laptops that were donated to Kopila Valley that my dad and I carried over here a few weeks ago. They will also not return our 6 suitcases. It makes me really sad but my Nepali chairman, Tope and I have tried everything in our power. I've exerted all my time and energy and patience and now it's time for me to move on.
My apologies to the entire Peck School Community for your laptops not reaching the children they were intended for. We all really appreciate your constant support and generosity.
And to my students, I'm really sorry. I will find another way to give you computer classes. Don't you worry.
For those of you who have questions or want to express your concern...

Ok I posted a thread about the laptops being confiscated by corrupt custom officials in Kathmandu Nepal a few months ago. Those were meant to be for the poor childrens education in Kopila Valley. Some of the sajha friends said how I was over exaggerating and they dont think its corruption. One of the respondents said I dont understand law and water. Well here you go see these two videos and be the judge.
I dont think those laptops have been released yet. If you guys know on the latest developments please feel free to post here.
