Anyone ever had room-mate who would run away every time the rent was due. How did u guys deal with you? He has a good-paying job but does count every penny and nickels. Everytime I want to involve the cops, I tell myself he's a fellow countryman. How did u guys deal with it?

Dude......why are you taking such a crap out of him....if he doen't think you as a "countryman"...........why should you care.......you already stated that he makes good living.....have him live alone......somehow have a money to pay for extra month and tell the apartment that you can not fulfill the whole lease........normally they will let you out paying extra month of rent.....if you stay with him, he sure will make you more broke....apart from that........talk about the mental tension that you will endure living with that "penny pincher" Regards.... Uday bro, If u are in lease and he is not then u have rights for anything. He cannot sue you at all. Like Madhesi mentioned you can ask your apartment manager to change the lock, if you don't wanna pay for the lock then you can tell your apartment manager that your car got broken into and stole your apartment keys, there is 99% chances they will change the lock for free. And also while talking with your Manager tell her/him that nobody has permission to enter in the apartment, this will prvent your roommate to get the keys from manager. Just in case your roommate is in lease, go and talk to your apt manager again and tell them that from now you will be paying your part only, this will led your apt manager to send him letter about his part or ask him to terminate the lease. There is nothing to be scared- if your roommate is not in a lease then you got the jackpot-you can even call cops and they will take your roommate away or get the apt keys from him/her.

Thanks all, I told the manager earlier and he wanted $30 to put on a new lock and advised me to call the cops on him. Should have used the excuse of car getting broken into. didn't think then :( I am going to write to his parents who think their son is the greatest person on earth. Besides that I might as well pay $30 and get rid of him forever.

Hi, I guess he loves job rather than your room. Hence, take a week vacation, and play music all night. it is easy, he will move in a few days, once he need to sleep peacefully. How's that!!!!!!!!!

It is not bad to ask sorry. If you lose something, you will gain something as well. Nothing is harder, he that is worm, thinks all are so (APHU KHUSHI JAGTAI KHUSHI). Thank you,

come on guys, give him some sensible suggestions. i would go with gallant's suggestion. if i were you, u-day, this is how I would deal with this situation: Take my roommate out to bar or a cafe, buy him a beer/coffee or whatever he wants to drink and talk to him about it. you know, everything can be resolved with a bit of talking. Instead of living with hatred and bitterness, which in turn would make your life bitter, just tell him nicely- "hey dude, you need to pay the rent. i am a student, i need money. " then if he is a sensible person, he would understand it, and pay you, if he's not, he'll make an excuse. then you know he's not sensible and not worth living with. just tell this to him up front, and start looking for a new roommate. bekkar ma lock change yeta uta garera tauko dukhaunu bhanda, kura garnu is the best way. believe me, it works. having lived with roommates for almost 10 years (on and off) now, I am talking from my experience.

The thread's still going strong. Yea he finally moved out (phew! a big relief). I feel sorry for the other Nepali guy he moved in with, I think I will stick to having American room-mates. Too bad an experience. Will move with a Nepali but only after a detailed careful investigation, this one gave me tooooooo much trouble to last a lifetime. Should I tell the guy he moved in with about his excuses when it comes to giving rent?

Yay....he moved out. Have a toast! Its f*c*ing hilarious though that he's leeched on to another Nepali guy. This guy needs to get a life and act like a man. If I were you, I'd warn this other guy about his excuses (however, I wouldn't do anything to get him bounced back to my place)
