ok this is going to be another weird thread (or close to being so). i was watching nepali literateur Jagadish Ghimire's interview the other day. For those of you who don't know Jagadish Ghimire, he is one of the senior journalists (used to write for some Saptahik newspaper in Nepal, if my memory serves me right) and an excellent writer.

I don't follow nepali literature (which is no good but is one of the things i have in my long 'to-do' list) but what caught my attention is that this guy gives this interview after he is diagnosed with blood cancer. He talks about how his views on life changed once he heard the news and how he prepared (or is preparing) himself to conceive and realize this eternal truth of a living being.

Most of us would not want to go through the feeling that we are going to die soon but this guy gathers enough courage and writes and publishes a book: "Antarman ko Yatra" (The journey of an Inner Soul) in which he talks about his take on life and death, among others. In the interview, he also talks about how he was inspired to write probably the last book of his life. (It would be great if it can be made available in the US and other countries via. Amazon or something).

Click here to watch his interview.

And there are few things I have been contemplating for a while now. This interview has further accentuated my contemplation -- my quest for answers to these weird unanswered questions of life (or death, I don't know):

1) Is there a life after death?

2) If Loote is dead, will Loote know that he is dead?

If the answer to question no. 2 is 'Yes', I have all the reasons to celebrate the success I have achieved and will further achieve in my life before I die.

if not, then  what's the point of this life, more so the success?  We all know how Newton contributed for the betterment of mankind. But does Newton (the one after his death-- his ash, his skeleton whatever, the one who actually contributed) realize what he did and how he is, even now, respected (or in some case revered) by the world?

3) If there is a life after death, why do they don't let us know what we were before this life and what we will be after this life?. That way, I will have some incentive to do what I want to do in this life coz then I would know, even after my death, what I meant to the society and the world.

4) But looks like I won't know (else I would have known what I was in my last life in the first place) and if that's the case, what the world and the people think about me and will think about my deeds after my death should not matter to me by an ounce, should it?  So going along that line, why don't I become a criminal ? Why be a nicey nice human?

I say, f8*k this life, f8*k the quest for success, f8*k the quest for love. I want to kill people. I want to become infamous. Let me do the honor by killing you first--yes you! What say you?

Ok, Loote, I am scared of you now!! everyone, don't go near loote or else you could be his first victim!! this is not how I wanted to start my weekend. and I don't think I should watch Jagadish ghimire's interview either. If his interview did this to loote, I don't know what it will do to me.

Hehe loote... stuff I always thought of. Nice one.

But then, if there aint a thing after death, then would it not be a good thing to indulge in all kinds of pleasures now? I mean, have all the fun in this life while you can! All the more reason to invent new sins (of the pleasant kind), be hedonistic, care-free. While those poor feckers who are afraid of going to hell force the sap to dry between their thighs, why shouldn't the rest of us make the most of it? I mean, not their sap (uuurggggghhh!) but ours!

May be those guys in the sixties had it right. Hippies, free love, drugs, and the zomby-like happiness of the moment! Should (or shouldn't) life be just that? Should it be more? Randy Pausch may have said stuff dirfferently, but he is dead now, and is perhaps regretting all the fun he didn't have!

Happy joke-cracking hobos in the city's subway system make me think at times! I am running to work each day, stressed out, and the homeless dudes have the energy to make fun of life, and me as well! And the buggers look stinkingly happy, in their own way! Sometimes, I wish I could pull a one-liner like they do and laugh it away! But then, I have to make it to the desk at 9, and all that swirls around my head are the numbers and names of presumably soulless as**oles I have to take care of that day!

Oh, for a moment of carefree, really carefree, existence, without a thought for tomorrow, the day-after, the year ahead, for death, or for the perhaps-non-existent-life-hereafter!

LooTeKuKuR, Thanks for sharing the link to the interview. I will try to listen (or read?) the interview tomorrow. I don't know what he has said about life but it should be very painful to know you are going to die. Every body knows he/she is gonna die one day but to know the exact date and to know the remaining days of life is really painful.

There was other guy, whose interview and lecture were all over the youtube. He had lectured once he knew he was going to die and it was a sensational one. I forgot the name of the person at this time but if I remember I will try to put it in here. He died a few weeks ago.

Regarding the life after death, what I think is, probably the person who dies will know he/she died once he dies. He will feel as if he left the place and came to another place, where he has some other forgotten friends ready to welcome him to the new place.

Remember how we feel once we leave Nepal and come to the USA (or other foreign country)? We feel bad about leaving our family and close friends and once we come to the USA we meet some old lost friends waiting in airport and then we start finding some other friends who had left us long time back. Then we start forgetting about our family and friends back home. We take our qualification with us and start a new journey with that qualification. I think life after death is ditto. The only difference is that we don't get rebtel, msn, yahoo and the return ticket. Once you are gone, you are gone forever.

Probably after enjoying our life in this new place and acheiving all those unachieved goals and we retire and then get ready for new life in the world again. By that time we will get formatted like a computer to remove all memory and be born as a new child. For some people those formatting work might get corrupted and people start having those weird dreams about previous life etc...

more questions:
1) who is loote? why is he loote? why not james bond? or  gopichand jasus? or charles shovraj? or someone even loote doesn't know? what makes him loote? who made him loote?

2) if loote has a second life (after death), will the dead loote know that he is reborn? will the new loote, in part or in whole, be able to live in the old dead loote?

3) there are several lootes around and their respective lootenis. what makes loote the loote that he is? how much does loote have control over his loote-pan? will loote still be loote if he is born in Brad pitt form? Or will Brad pitt still be Brad pitt if he is born as loote?

In other words, why were you born to your parents and in the place where you were born? Would you be same if you were born in Timbucktoo and not Teas, if you were born to Mr. and Mrs. Alex Smith and not Mr. and Mrs. your-parents-name?

more later...

(BTW, brad pitt and alex smith are just names which don't hold any more significance than ram prasad rastogi in the context here...don't take it otherwise)
