Dear Friends,
I have been away for while from the sajha land and being more busy with my establishment here in Nepal. Today it marked 3 years getting back to Nepal. The ups and downs of roller coaster was fun to be look back. I always wanted to start a wine bar in Nepal and was waiting for right time plus investment. Finally i have fulfilled my dream here in Nepal as First wine bar in Nepal and more work is under act for Cigar lounge as well.

No offense though just wanted to share news to you all.

Congratulations

Opening is just the first milestone (in Nepal). Surviving takes a bit of luck, besides a lot of hard work and networking.

So here is an extract from internet.

La Maison PDF Print E-mail

With the growing popularity of wine-drinking, a place like La Maison is just what Kathmandu has been waiting for. Wine lovers now have a reason to rejoice- the  motherlode is here. La Maison (means “The House”)  is Kathmandu’s new wine bar serving over 90 varieties  of wine from countries like Australia, France, Italy and  Chile. Out of this, 22 varieties are available to customers  by the glass. This is the largest selection to be made  available by the glass by any restaurant in the city.

If you’d like to buy a bottle but are unsure as to how it might taste- no worries! La Maison offers you the chance to taste a sample of any bottle before you decide to buy the bottle.

Another thing that wine enthusiasts will be  delighted about is that given prior notice, the restaurant staff will open your wine for  you and let it “breathe” so that it is ready for drinking just as you step into the restaurant. The staff know their wines and are ready to help you make an informed decision when choosing your bottle.

However, La Maison, despite its wines, is a casual establishment. Sandeep K.C. a wine sommilier and the owner of the place, wanted to emulate a  French vineyard where he had visited a few years ago. La Maison’s decor is predominantly rustic with its mustard yellow and lavender walls.

On the menu, there are numerous tapas dishes to complement your wine. Expansion projects are underway upstairs for a cigar and Invenio wine  lounge.

Location: Baluwatar (near the Chinese Embassy) in Nhucche Organic  Kitchen’s premises.

It would definately be a plus point if you think about adding some food as well, doesn't have to be a heavy course but like some traditional light appatitizers. If you could provide onlinel ist of your wines, that would be great. I will be there whenever i go to KTM.

I wish you had launched a business that was beneficial to the people and our society both in short and the long run. It’s none of my business but I doubt that you would be proud of your success in the long run by encouraging people to drink and smoke. It is disappointing that we, young and foreign educated people, couldn't come up with better business ideas. I’m sorry in advance if I offended you, but I had to give my honest feedback.

Thanks to you all.

I am working on the website which will have a detail about wines and tapas. The problem is most of the wine traders are approaching me to sell their wines. I have now more than 150 varieties and looking forward for 350 varieties by next 2 months. It has picked up and gradually becoming the wine hub.

Eminitrader: I started learning about wine in the year 1998 while studying hotel management. I joined the exclusive wine club at school and then followed it for 3 years. Later i traveled to the Bourgogone region of france known as burgundy and stayed in a small family vineyard with recoginsation from my wine sommelier guru. There i spend 3 months working in vineyard. There is where i learn the secret and have build the palate. Since then i have been always working closely with wine. Infact one of the job in hong kong was wine sommelier for french haut cuisine called la Terrasse, working as maitre de hotel and operation manager closely with wine supplier has helped me. My acheivement was 2nd runner up in inter hotel school blind testing in swiss. I guess i trust my nose and palate.
Californian Wine are very less in Nepal, Infact there is only one Zinfindal so far i have seen. Though Last time i managed to buy whole stock of Abbey Freemark Cab Sab and Merlot vintage of 1987. There thought wine is bad and was selling for NRS 300 rupees per bottle. Other one is La Roy from france, same story selling for NRS 800 Rupees and selling for buy one get one free. They missed the point and i have most of the market stock now.
You will be surprised to see such a good vintage plus that smell of eucalyptus is definelty a Californian good sign.

Sajhabusaima,
If i can pay your fee then it will be great. Hope! you don't charge hype rate but i can promise you to make popular with your skill. Now its pity they call me first wine expert of Nepal though the market is big and if you work here, i Can give you connections. You can make fortune.
Normally my income comes from teaching to bankers, armies and golfers. The rate i charge is high for them but for hotel management students, i charge reasonable. There is certainly a space.
