You need US visa in your passport to return back to US. It's up to you whether you want to go to Nepal first to get visa or apply for visa from Canada when you go there. Be advised you need to show enough financial proof that you have enough fund to pay for college and living expenses. You can apply for visa in Canada, the only drawback is that if you are put in hold for some reason you need to stay in canada till you are issued the visa.

From my understanding or what i have heard, it takes at least a month to get visa from Canada for USA. So, my friend she went mexico twice during her undergrad and got visa stamping. One of my frn's friend who tried to get visa stamping from canada was deported. (I am not sure about the reason). But all i heard is, its not easier to apply visa from canada as it was back in the days and so people are going to mexico for that purpose.
... Hope this would help N all the bst for what u doing..

if you are going to canada or mexico for less than 45 days, you can travel with your valid I-94 provided that you have a expired or valid visa in your passpor and that you are not applying for a new visa at the consulate. google more on this. http://www.bu.edu/isso/students/current/f1/travel/north-america.html find out more from cbp.gov.

according to your suggestion and recommendation it look to me that i cant travel to canada and come back. but i still need to go to canada. its important for my job. if it takes for me to apply visa i guess i have to bite the bullet and do it.
i am at the end of my grad so i request those who have been to canda to get F-1 visa issued and are in the grad school to share their experience. by the way i have to go to montreal. is there any better place to be where i can apply my visa, in terms of time to porcess my application and interview.
thanks again

nepalikanchoi,
as far as i know, if your visa is exipred abd have a valid I20, you can travel to canada and come back to USA without any problem. But you should come back to US within 30 days. There will be problem if and only if your stay there is more than 30 days.
good luck sathi.
