From Nepal :
I was asked:
What do you do? What is your salary? Are you on OPT now? When did your H1B started ? Who are your clients ? etc.
Although I work fulltime, the people whom we do business with are my clients so I just told the name of the companies.
The VO kept on asking but as soon as she saw my tax return documents, it almost ended there. She asked "are you nervous?"
After that she asked other questions like
Are you married? Do you have plans to get married (yes) ? What is her name ?
She noted down the name and gave me the token to pick up visa after 2 days.
In my experience, it was cool, just relax and be confident and prepared. And put your documents in order.

I am fulltime employee. My employer is not a 3rd party employer. It is not consultancy. We do not make products but rather we process data, data comes from some other sources so I told VO that we get data from those companies, that name is what she wanted to hear.
In my opinion VO was trying to judge if my employment was like consulting job, which it wasn't, but she was not convinced until I told her the sources of data that we process. So in a way they were my companie's client. I work at my employer's office and was never required to go to client's location or talk to clients.

I work for consulting company and I did my H1B stamping on June. I was asked following questions
1) how much employee does your company have?
2)what exactly do you work?(i mentioned my job responsibilities for client company)
3) How long is your vacation?
4) Are you getting married? Or do you have any plans to get married?
5)how much hour do you work per week?(I mentioned 40 and consular asked do you do any overtime other than that 40 hours, i said NO)
Consular gave me the token and asked me to come after 2 days to pick up the visa.
Make sure if you are working on consulting company have the following:
1)Client letter - a most
2) Client company batch
3) Letter from your company mentioning you work for the respective client with hours of work(40 in my case)
4) Job offer letterr
5)Employment verification letter from the company you work.
6)Photo of you and your working desk(good to have)
Rest are other ususal documents like tax return, tax file, bank statement, certificates etc

Thanks Kalo_Chasma...it looks like all the horrible information I have heard and read on forum are implemented to Indian only. I haven't heard any bad story from the Nepali. Is there anybody who has bad exeperience while going for H1B stamping?
You got your visa stamp from Nepal, right?(just wanna make sure you didn't do it in Mexico or Canada)

I am confused to what exactly i will need to bring to nepal. I hired an attorney to file my h1-b. all he said are the following:
1. Valid passport;
2. Original H1B approval notice (I-797)
3. A certified copy of H1B petition (it is in the mail to Premier)
4. 4 most recent pay stubs;
5. A letter from the HR confirming that you are employed with the company.
But you guys also mention things like tax filing, bank statements, certificates etc etc??
Please suggest..

what kalo_chasma posted are required for people who work in consulting companies.
you may not need bank statement or certificates but it is very much likely that you would be asked about your taxes.
I think :
if you have been in h1b in 2010 you must have filed those taxes, the VO would want to see those tax return filing and that you have paid your taxes, by that he would see that you actually had a job and not just were running on the payroll to maintain H1B.
I was asked no. 2,3,4 and 5 from above list. and was asked to show my tax return documents and W2s. I was in H1b for full year of 2010. If you were not on h1b in 2010, it should not matter much, but its good to have those documents. ( it actually helps your h1b stamping )
It is upto you, if you do not have documents they "might" ask for, you are taking a risk. It's better to be on safe side :)

the Hareeb,
I-797 (original), passport, and visa application receipt (you get from Nabil bank) : technically, these three documents are required at US embassy for H1b visa interview.
Other than that, the more additional documents you can have, the more credibility you will gain to get visa granted. So, the rest of documents are just to add extra support...
What can be these extra documents -
1. Employer's letter (that you work and get paid and your future prospectus is good with that company).
2. Tax records (shows you are good guy for US government).
3. Past pay stubs copies (oh.. yeah, you are indeed employed).
4. Client's letter (now, you really wanna prove - there is no doubt about your employment... you really work at this company location)
5. Add whatever documents you want in the list (your academic documents, your work id card, driving license, insurance copy etc etc.. )
I hope this helps..

You guys are talking about the tax return. But during the year 2010, I didnt have the h1b, my h1b approved on march 1, 2011 but I do have tax return for 2010 when i was working on OPT and work for 6 months. Do you think, they count the tax returned for the year i have worked on OPT?
Thanks all of you for discussing on this matter. This thread is helping me alot to build my confidence. But you never know :)

I mentioned tax return documents because I was asked for it, as soon as he VO saw my tax return documens, interview stopped there . I got the token.
I dont think before H1b status would matter but then, you might be asked. So if you have, its good to carry.

There was no contract mentioned on client letter. It just stated that I was employee of some other company and I work for them on their location. Also my job responsibilities was mentioned in that letter.
I work as Employer-Client. Consulate never asked about how long was my contract or anything related to contract.
Master Service Agreement document between my company and my client had 5 year of contract.(This was contract between my company and my client, but not my contract). I doubt consulate read this document.

I had my interview on june and the only question he asked me was " what do your company do and what are your responsibilities" I submitted i797, employment letter, pay stubs, last year tax return, academic certificates, ssn. I didn,t get the token immediately but got visa after 12 days. I used to call everyday to know the status of my application. I am full time employee. I hope this helps you.
