I am not against Mac but I will never buy one because of its cost (unless it reduces its price comparative to other laptops such as Dell, HP, Toshiba). Being in a software industry, I feel buying a Macbook is paying extra Apple Tax (thats what I call for its high price). If you want to show off to your friend and don't care about the price, go for it. But if you are looking for the specs (comparative) buy either Dell, HP or Toshiba. You can get a good laptop in descent price. The choice is up to you........ Enjoy!!

masanga recently samma dell ko laptop thiyo.. 3 barsa bhanda badhi tikyo, bigreko bhaneko eik choti k bhako thaha chaina tara restore disc use garna pareko thiyo, ani pachi chahin battery dead bhayo, ahile chain power chord le saath choryo....... ani naya power cable + battery kinnu bhanda naya laptop kinne sur chadera sony ko vaio kine 900 jati ma. sony pani ramro cha, tara malai purano dell ko media buttons haru ko baani thiyo, suru ma chain garo bhathyo sony ma adapt huna... sony ko sasto model ma khasai dherai feature hunna but still better deal than mac, mero experience bata chain dell recommend garchu, tara sabai company mass produce hune na hun, kasai kasai ko dell le chain dukha diyeko ni sunchu. hp ni testai ho, tara hp ko ni laptop ramro huncha. aarko malai man parne laptop chain lenovo ho.... aba aafulai ke ke feature haru chahincha, tyo hisaab le yeso online store haru ma price haru hera, physical store haru chain best buy athwa frys electronics le ramro deal dincha, online ma pcconnection, compusa, etc ma ramro deal paauna sakcha. ani kahile kahin chahin manufacturer le heavy mail in rebate di raako bela parna sakcha, tesaile company ko web ni check gara. ani, laptop haru ma 1 barsa man. defect warranty huncha, ani credit cards like amex extend the warranty for an extra year ( double the warranty up to a year). amex ko chahin pakka huncha, but i heard even mastercard does it. credit card chaina bhane bank ko atm with mastercard logo lai as a credit use garyo bhane ni huncha re. u just have to register ur product with the credit card after u buy it. for me, that is more than enough, kuz i will most probably want a new laptop in 2 years. so i wud not bother about spending almost half the cost of laptop in a warranty that is full fo fine writings. these are suggestion, u should confirm these still exist before making up ur mind.

I dont know why you guys are making such a big discussion..
For what purpose you wanna buy laptop? Is it just household purpose (email, online videos, music, movies etc) or something enterprise level of use (e.g. developer's tool, utilities?).
If it is for household use, get something upto 2GB RAM, 160GB+ Hard Disk, 1.7GHz+ Intel Processor..
For enterprise use, go for higher RAM at least 4GB RAM, and higher speed.
Few facts you should know- 1. No matter what brand you buy, average lifetime of a laptop is 2 years. Some hardware issue appears after that period (Ironically, your warranty expires by that period). so RULE 1- LAPTOP'S LIFE IS 2 YRS whatever you buy.. 2. Don't go for too big hard disk size. No matter what is the size of storage, it is always less - one day, it will be full. Larger hard drives create issues, and they add extra weight.. Something around 200GB would be perfect. so RULE 2 - NO BIIGGG HARD DRIVES. 3. Hight graphics ? Video Games? Desktop virtualization? Go for higher RAM. Rather go for Mac.. otherwise, DELL is fine. They have better / robust peripherals. 4. Don't spend more that 700 bucks in a laptop. 5. Don't shut down (turn off) laptop too often. Internally, it does lots of flushing/restoring work during shutdown/startup process. Rather just close the lid and it goes into hybernation.. Thats good. You should shutdown/restart once in a while for updates or after scanning.

ANS You must be buying crappy laptops with life of 2 years. My IBM thinkpad is crossing 3 year and I abused it lot for many trips to Nepal and all over the place. Still it runs like a butter. On the other hand my nephew's Dell is dead in 16 months. It is just "what you pay what you get" rule. . But I agree with your other comments as the buyer has to know what he needs the laptop for and depending on the need laptop type can vary ranging from $300 to $5000.

macbook is NOT over hyped. i dont know if it was the hw or the os itself but from my usage i noticed that macbook is a lot better in terms of performance than most other laptops with similar configs.

I bought Macbook Pro prior to last Christmas and have been very much enjoying it. No crashes, no virus, no Windows problems. Very smooth in every respect. I got the $1400 version. But Macbook can be had for less than $1000. I recommend Macbook.

Mac core 2 duo are available for 800-900, go for it. Want cheaper, I will be choosing IBM.Found interesting data: September is the month the school starts, every one is trying to get their share of profit lowering computer price. Other right time is to buy on Black Friday, not explained about the month April, but the price on April were lowest of all.

If you aren't doing anything that requires a lot of processing power (including having a ridiculous amount of programs running at the same time), Acer aspire 5532 is awesome. It's biggest selling point is its price. It has great specs but only a single core processor. At just over $300 you can't go wrong. It's gotten good reviews and even if something were to happen to it, it's cheap so it won't be the end of the world.
Personally, I would go for a mac if I was spending more than a few hundred bucks.
