Agreeing with no quero, want to add few more points.

1. Western country and media has their vested interest on this as they do not like the person like Ahmadinijad who out rightly denied the holocaust and always against the Israeli regime. He is exxtremist no doubt about that and personal level I do not agree nor like him. But on the other side, western media does not cover the part Palestine where people are made refugee to their own land.

2. These are the same media which reported about nepal's uprising, and they failed to analyze this protest beyond the camera frame. Only the we know, due to coercion and death threat of Maoists, most people came down to street.  (Congress and UML were doing the protests since ages.) But any such protests which destroys public properties and paralyze public life has to bear the consequences but ironically, at that time we saw voice raised against the ruling regime  only on be half of so called human right activits and western media favoring the protestors. MIND YOU PROTESTORS ARE NOT ONLY THE GENERAL PUBLIC. What about those who did not participate?

So just because of media is giving hype on that basis you can not decide the inherent socio political matter of that country. Be that is Iran or Afganistan. In this context I like Obama policy to not indulging into any soverign countrys internal matter directly. Republican " Bomb bomb" are just acting like whining baby.

3. Iran is a Islamic republic and religious leader has last say under that circumstances  life will not  change just by replacing Ahamadnijad by Musavi.

4. While there is public protests as people have right to have peaceful protests ( how many of you have seen a peaceful protests without any riots??) it is the responsibilty of the government to protect public properties and public life while doing that they are bound to use the arm force or bullets as required. That is why there is government not like nepal where Maoists has jungle raaj. Imagine, if you do public prtoests without the permission of US authority here you will be sentenced to how many years? Here you can not disruput pulic life then why in a hell you people are crying about Iran or any country?

Stay calm and do not judge the things from miles away by just watching some clips in bits and peices.

I dont know sir , what your agenda is , but your ignorance to think the whole issue from a neutral point of view , makes me think that you really have no clue about the Topic you posted here . Just reading to western media does not provide you with the knowledge you need to know .

No quiero and Kanchu , very well said. Could have not said it any better .

Newlynew , u can lengthen this topic as long as you want to sir , but once in a while its better to listen to others arguments too .Give it a thought , there is more to the protest than just election. There is a lot of hidden agenda for west and the election is just an excuse .

1. Not sure what media to follow when the Iranian Authoriites have expelled all the foreign outlet. Maybe Iranian Press TV is the way to go.

2. Can you find out the number of Iranian army back in 1979? I bet it was just a few thousands

3. Press TV predicated landslide for MA. Maybe Khomenei did too. By official admission, there were irregularities in many areas with number of votes casted exceeding number of eligible votes. Well, the Press TV prediction had to come true.

4. They were bad bad prtestors. The picked up stones when subejcted to gunshots, water cannons and baton charges. Gandhi would surely be ashamed.

5. Maybe the protestors should have applied for permission to stage the protests with Khomenei and see if he would have granted it. They must have been fools not to try to get prior permission.

Why dont you understand the fact that people have to follow the constitution and law .Just because you dont agree with something , does not give you the right to go for violent protest .Just like you have the right , other people have the right too .You just cant intrude on people peace and harmony .
Country with 100 million , are being held hostage by a couple of thousand . What democracy you talking about ? Do you even know what it means ?

Kasto bheda jasto manche , jatti bujhaunna khojje pani na bujhne .

I think newlynew , trying to explain you , is like trying to teach my 7 yr old rocket science . I might succed in that .

No offense meant , but then , i am just suprised how one can be so naive and ignorant .

I support this revolution but I do not think this revolution will be successful. I think it's winding down.

Did you notice a lot (a lot, most of them) of hip modern young men and women protesting on tv? That's where the problem is. Revolution can not be successful with just hip modern city folks. We need every dick and harry from the towns and villages rising up too. Until this happens, revolution will fail.

Wow Nice topic!! Iranian revolution!, newly new let me tell you one thing. Long ago i read a saying,"every generation needs a new revolution", and same thing is happening in Iran too. Iranian revolution was able to overthrow Iran's Monarchy and replace it with Islamic Republic and now some sorts of another revolution is getting its shape which is not that easy but will happen. I gotta say every revolution ends by becoming an opressor.

raju161,

quite true
revolutionaries topple the oppressors
then revolutionaires morph into oppressors over time
this gives birth to new revolutionaries

People who believe in agreeing to the rule of democracy also need to agree to the fact that the ideology they follow may not be the most popular one regardless of the ideology being right or wrong.

George Bush won the 2000 elections regardless of what was speculated in Florida Votes. We didn't see Al Gore tearing down US cities because he lost.

Those half minded Democratic believers do not want to accept the rule of democracy. The only time they want to act democratic is when their party wins.

Yes democratic elections doesn't always elect the most righteous person or ideology. Sometimes 50% plus of the population could be wrong and yet the winners. If you believe in democracy you would also believe that fact and accept the result.

I am with Obama's view point regarding Iran, Regardless who wins in Iran, the world still needs to deal with Nuclear Iran. Do not assume that Mussavi is going the drop the Nuclear plan.

Sid

It appears that this movement-kind-of-thing is being sustained by some (tacit) support from the old guards of the 1979 revolution. So it is more of a conflict within the stake-holders of the Islamic regime than something aimed at overthrowing the supreme-leader-dominated undemocratic power structure set up by the Islamic revolution. Ahmadinejad as a newcomer seems to be trying to have more hold on all state matters including those traditionally controlled by the clerics in committees like the guardian council. So, there clearly is an internal fight for power. I can't support Ahmadinejad's rhetoric on Jews, Israel and America but I don't think his election was a toal fraud.

Though Change in Iran is long overdue, the size of these protests hardly indicates the possibility of any appreciable change any time soon. Even a re-elecion and a victory for Mousavi (which does not seem likely) would hardly mean anything as far as Change is concerned. Western media's coverage of protests with women's participation and their implications seems to be exaggerated  in essence. Only those living in Iran can tell the truth. It will definitely take much more time for any movement to take momentum even if it succeeds to sustain.

The change is Iran is overdue no argument on that, i had watched a documentary called " Letters to Ahmadinejad" in HBO. That video starts with all the people who like him to all the people who dislike him ending with all the people who hate him.

Video says, the guy trippled the salary or Ordinary Iranian and he has 1 million loyal army. Imagine who those 1 Million army influence their family members to vote for, there are lots of people who are pro western and liberal Muslims but those are minorities. I support the Liberal Muslim ideas but the majority or Iran wants to be the Hard Liner, anti Isreal, anti west muslims. But they choose to be that way in a democratic way.

66 % wrong controls 33% right in a very democratic way.

Sid

I believe US and UK has some kind of hand on this revolution. The idea is to try EVERYTHING (including this revolution) to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon before letting Israel to destroy the Iranian nuclear weapons program.

1) The revolution WAS real but it was not enough. Large number of voters (especially the young, the women and the educated city folks) did turn out to vote for Moussavi but it was not enough. Ahmadinajad did have a large following and more turned out to vote to keep him in power.

2) The US and UK ARE helping the revolution.

3) There WERE irregularities in voting. In some districts, there were more votes than people eligible for voting. 3 million is the number of such exra votes.

4) Since there were irregularities in voting, I support a re-election for a fair voting.

Mr. Khamenei, let the Iranian people re-vote please.
