Fellow Sajhaites, I'm currently on OPT and waiting results from my H1b this year. Is it safe for me to travel to Puerto Rico??? My student visa has expired but have a valid passport and US drivers license. Do I need my passport or is US DL is enough to travel to Puerto Rico and return w/o any immigration hassel. do we even have to go through immigration if PR is "technically" part of US??? highly appreciate your help!

I was there and I did not need my passport. Citizens with or without a passport are able to travel there safely. You will not pass through any immigration check. You might want to take the passport along, along with your drivers license. You can rent a car there with the license. Keep in mind that it is quite hot there. Also May has the most rain of any month. Check out weather.com for the latest weather. Temperatures are very constant.
