As they rightfully say, the world is going digital. I don't remember the exact statistics, but I believe on a recent survey only 1 out of 6 EE grads want to do analog/rf electronics. Most EEs go for embedded system designs as there is a lot of demand for that and also because it is fun!
But you still need analog circuits for power transmission on any system. That's why an interviewer recently told me that there is still a demand for analog engineers because of the shortage in supply. If you like discrete circuits and programming is not your thing, analog electronics might be a good choice.

I agree with fortunefaded. Wireless technologies will never disppear, so RFIC (RF analog circuit) will have tremendous future. However, trends in RFIC design is changing, since this year ISSCC conference, digitally-assisted RFIC will take the market in the years to come. good luck!!

Isn't that Electronics, as oppose to Electrical Engineering?

Communication (from a transmission standpoint, not just chip/semiconductor design), Power system (generation/distribution/transmission), Plant engineering etc are recommended.

RF networks, Telemetry (Design) has been one of the finest choices for Electrical Engineering people that i know and who want to be in telecommunications industry.

If you want to stand up to the next decade with your head held high, be prepared with sufficient knowledge of Data and RF networks. With Digital Broadcasting , Re-banding  and 700Mhz wireless spectrum that are ahead of us , you would make a good career.

peacekeeper,

the fist thing is what you are really interested in. If you are good and lucky you will finally find a job regardless of your specialization ( of course your university also matters and there are other factors too). I would suggest you to go to the one you are really interested in. If you are really concerned with the job market , then I would say go for major in Communication Systems and take couple of courses in VLSI design, comupter architecture, computer networks ( IP, ATM) and RF/analog design so that you will be able to apply for whatever job in the field of electrical engineering.

Finally, I saw that you are in undergrad, you have lots of oppourtinities. You can decide about your specilization in your masters.

Good luck

I personally think if you are in it just for the money, you will never be a good engineer. You will just be an average engineer, and average engineer's dont get jobs all the time. Dude be passionate about what you like to do. Be the best in your field, trust me you will get a job in a heartbeat.. and who said engineers wont' get job's specially electrical engineers..

Who do you think designs all the crap we use everyday. Me I was in intrested in Power Generation when I started cause I always wanted to go back to nepal and create Hydro Electricity but someone in my junior year I fell into computers and started desiging circuit boards and prototype computers and I loved it so much, I am in computers these days. I love what I do.

If you don't like and love what you do, there is no way you can survive, you will get bored easily, people can tell if you are in it for the money or if you love what you do. Did you jsut decide to be an Engineer cause your parents asked you too or are you genuinely intrested in this field..

Go with what you really want to do, forget the job market. no matter what people say. digital can't survive with analog but it depends on which field you are talking about????

But I think Chip designing and telecommunications has more jobs according to the other engineers up in the thread.

Just do what you really want to do,

my 2 cents

I am also doing undergrad in EE .. .. later in your senior year, you have to choose ur specializtion..  such as wether u wanna do in power or communication or computer.. electronics and control system . ..  you can specialized in two field ..   and that just  takes 2 or 3 courses . . .  So. . you can do communication and computer  .. .or power and  control  ..

when you go higher level u will know by ur self .. .
