I met this one girl who is a citizen of United States, and would marry me for a green card. She is my good friend, and wants to help me out be a permanent resident without any conditions. I am a F1 visa holder, living in the states for last 3 years, and still have 2 years on my VISA. I know it is better to apply a green card from work later, and the whole thing is not a big issue. However, i have seen some of my elders not getting work after they graduate, and had struggled to get a green card. I need help from all the sajhaites. I am going to do as your majority opinion, as I do not feel okay to ask my parents and friends about it. Do I get married for the green card when someone is ready to help me, or do I wait?? Also how does the whole process work if I want to apply for one. How long does it take? Will I have any problems in the future with having a marriage and divorce filed? Thank you in advance for your help...

why is she helping you? just to get you a greencard. marriage in our society is big thing. it does not sound good just to marry a person for the sake of green card. well, if you guys like each other and think that you guys can live together, its definitely good thing for you. just my opinion

Hey man c'mon Don't tell us a white girl is willing to marry u to help u out to get green card. Nobody will buy this. Either u feel urself too smart or sajhaites too stupid. If u think sajhaites are too stupid than why u r asking them and if u feel urself too smart than why u need suggestions??? U r a total hypocrite.

I don't think he mentioned any color when he said a "FRIEND". As far as asking for suggestions, this is something you should not be asking people about. Do what you want to do. If you are doing it just for green card, it is better if less people know about it.

Dude this is abt your life so u have to take a decision not the sajha people. Because if something bad happen in the future you are the one who have to face it not sajha people. here in sajha people are ready to give you their thought. so just think about it seriously and step ahead.... think about what you are about to do. don't take anything reverse its just my opinion rest on you .........life is your's, choice is your's. Good Luck

Friends with benefits : Always nice to have em around - Lucky bastard! Moral issues are yours to deal with. Lets just talk about the unemotional part here: From what I hear 6 months after marriage u get a temp GC. Then in 2 yrs u get a permanent one - provided you are still married and pass the interviews. If you do get married ALWAYS maintain your visa status as an F1 student (i.e take 12 cr every semester with decent grades n the whole nine yards). Then if things dont work out in the next 2 years you can always divorce her and continue as an F1 student. Now if u dont see yourself happily married to this woman for a long time, guard your sperm like its in a max security penitentiary. One mistake n yr #@$ for 18 yrs - 21 if your offspring decides to goto college. Luck 2 u in whatever u decide to do.

1. Make sure she is a real US citizen. 2. Make sure you don't make her pregnant. Feel free for marriage and get the GC. Best of luck.

Thanks ppl... yeah she is a real citizen, and no I wont get her pregnant. But I still do not find answer to my questions. How do i get a green card? I dont even know how to file a marriage? Do i have to have pics from wedding, or can i just rent the wedding dress? Do I just do court marriage, or I have to go to church in wedding dress (embarrassing :-)) Anyone else done this before, coz i would like to be in contact with em...

Just go get married in the court. You may have to get an appointment based on the state you're located at. I'm sure that there must be a website that you can look into. Also, as someone said earlier, do not ask others if you should get married or not, if it is right or wrong and all that crap. Just do what you think is good for you and your future. Good thing about getting married with this girl is that she won't feel like she has been dumped even after you leave her in the future. She is playing cool and knows the outcome. Good Luck!
