hae guys
i m in F1 status and i m working in check.i m jst wondering how necessary is social security tax to pay.the place where i m working cut a whole lot of social security tax so i m thinking of exempting social security tax.need some advice in this case.every single advice is appreciable.thnks.

carkeyjee, if you are working illegally off-campus, then DO NOT give the above printout as per mentioned by Parbatya. In that case, it would be wise to continue paying your taxes.

Social Security Tax also known as FICA tax is for residents. the residents can take social security benefits after 59 1/2 (or 70 years not quite sure) as social security benefits from IRS. So there is no point in paying FICA tax by F 1 status. but the employer is required to withold FICA tax, as I beleive he assumed you as residents.

In my case, my employer knws tht i m F1 and not authorized to work here in USA in F1 status.he is an indian guy and i already told him abt my social security tax and if i want he can take it off but i m jst worried if its goin to be any problem for me or not in future.thnks for the advice and hope to have some more suggestions so tht i can make a decision.

carkeyjee, if you're planning on filing your taxes at the end of the year and stating the income earned from the "legally unauthorized" job, then do not avoid your SS tax. Just my thoughts...

we don have to worry abt federal and state tax coz they r refundable but social security tax is non-refundable and its not sure tht we r going to stay here till it get refunded around the age of 60-70...wht do u think?jst wondering...

carkeyjee, you are working off campus illegally and you want to elimate you SS tax? This is insane. Why raise a red flag on yourself doing so? All I can say is that you continue paying your SS tax (atleast be glad you have an off-campus job).
