not as long as you can entertain yourself. hahahaha...

what is loneliness?

go to a club/bar, if you are physically lonely.
if you are mentally/emotionally lonely, do some reading/musings,  watch movies. go to gym...

there are so many things that can keep u engaged.

The American's talk about American Dream and the Indians are in fact living it.

We all go thru that loneliness sometimes in our life. I think that is good. You get a chance to discover about yourself. Be positive. Think of what lies ahead. Remember, No Pain..No Gain. After all, we come alone and we go alone. So be ready to face the worst. And make the best out of what you got.

Hope that helps..

American Society give high importance to individuality and independence.
This  might be outcome of these two attributes.
This is part and parcel of the American Life style.

My guess on your lonely being lack of friends, trustworthy and loyal life partner.- One another factor is highly materialistic society.

Why is this, any new comer in the US has so little knowledge of the real issues in America. Even today, new students and other alike think about Hollywood, rich life, red carpet back home. I thought it was over after my generation but I'm wrong all the time. Somebody is not doing a good job when they return back to Nepal or when they take a trip, not spreading the real truth. Or is it we just don't listen?

If you don't like loneliness, then call your parents or just go back home. Why is that you can't make new friends here? They're human being too like any other Nepali back home.

interesting and some interesting comments. I agree with 191karma almost all of us go through this moment at some point in our life. On Bob's comment, coming to US might not have much to do as loneliness can occur even in one's home country amidst a big crowd of friends and strangers. Also, loote has raised a pertinent question: what do u call loneliness. Different ppl might have different takes. I think loneliness will fade away with time, just get something to keep ur mind engaged on for now. If it doesn't and persist for a longer time continually, you might wanna seek some professional help. Taking active participation herein sajha might be a good way to start :-)

lol,

I do not know much... but i think people took the question in "wrong" way... just my opinion.

Does "loneliness" has to do with boys NOT getting gals or vice versa? I think even 2 people can be lonely ... don't u think?

In my opinion, no matter what u do (Loote's suggestions are good), I think people (I might be talking about nepalese people only here) tend to be more lonely than they were in Nepal. One point I might add is: work life is surely lonelier than student life. We Nepalese, mostly, come to US after finishing some level of student life in Nepal, hoina ra?

thanks.

thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts.

yes, it is rather hard to pin it down...what loneliness means. But as 'bkb' pointed out, lets not trivialize loneliness as  not being able to find the significant other.

I was talking more in terms of the individualism that seems to dictate the american way of life...... More comments are appreciated!

My dear Sajhites, everyone shared their personal thoughts about 'loneliness'. Actually, I feel that people all around the world who blog or spend hours discussing, chatting in the chatroom etc doing anything related to electronic communication are all feeling lonely.... me included. Have you noticed that even when a group of friends get together, instead of talking to each other, they are mostly engrossed in their mobiles. When they meet at Starbucks... the laptop comes inbetween. When you dial up a corporation, an electronic voice answers your call. Besides this electronic invasion into our human life...we have lost the human touch. Life in America is fast paced. Life in Nepal is slow and steady. In US, everything ticks by the clock...clock in...clock out. But in Nepal, who bothers to check the time. Thus, you have no choice but to run with the herd or be left behind. And when you are forced to run with the herd, you cannot afford to look left or right. But in Nepal, you can sit on the rooftop and count the shooting stars...or go fly kites! So, your lifestyle changes and with that you feel bouts of loneliness. Trust me, going clubbing, dancing the night away, drinking till you puke, working like a busy squirrel, will not take away this loneliness. It is a form of emptyness. The only way to reduce this feeling, is to keep yourself totally occupied doing something for OTHERS. When you do something for others, you tend to forget yourself and your needs. Of course, you have to do your job or studies or personal activities. But if you can spend your spare time doing something good for someone else, you'll be surprised at how happy you'll feel. If you can continue doing this, before you know it you'll focus less on yourself and more on others. That's the way out of loneliness. Try it.
