September 04, 2006 Passport renewal in US I read an enquiry about how to renew the passport in US. Here is what you do. Download the application form from Nepal Embassy website. The form is in Nepalil language. Print it. Fill that up with 2 passport size recent photos. Use an envelope big enough to contain your passport and related documents. The document must contain a return full self addressed envelope too and the fee required by the Nepal Embassy. Go to the post office, get it weighed with your passport and other documents inside it. Also ask the postal clerk to give you an approximate weight of your self addressed envelope with two passports inside as the Embassy returns your old passport too. Buy the postal ticket for sending your application with your expired current passport and other set of postal tickets for fixing on the return envlope. The Embassy does not bear the postal cost for sending back your new and old passport. Once you post your application to the Embassy you have to wait till you get back your self addressed envelope with your two passports inside. The writer is not an expert in doing this procedure but he is writing this out of his past experience when the Embassy was very helpful. I hope the concerned Nepalese living in US will find this useful. Posted by Jiwan K. Pradhan- 10:34 PM

Dear Thapap, Have you tried calling them. In my experience they have responed to calls and I have got positive result. But you should not be annoyed if they sound unfriedly. You must understand how we act when we are are in the chair with some given authority of decision making. But you have no option but to be polite with them as you have to get your job done. Mero anubhav le yastai bhanchha Thanks for the question. Will co-operate if you need further enquiry.

Dear Macho, I don't think you have to pay the renewal fee in cash if you are mailing. It is postal order you have to send. In case if you are applying in person at the Embassy things may be different and may be you have to pay in cash. Renewal fee may be quite high. Has this information helped you?

Dear Macho, I regret to know that they have that way of working in Paris whereas I was referring to the renewal procedures in US not France. However, do in Rome what Romans do. Regarding Suvachintak1, I read the link. It was very informative. It seems that the situation in the Nepal Embassy in US is in a sorry state. I have not seen this in person and it needs to improve fast.

As i understand you cannot renew your passport they issue you a new one for you, that whtat it said in the applicatoin form, i just sent mine last saturday so let see how long does it take, i did put comfirmation and tracking in my mail both way, its too risky to just send it in normail mail without confirmation and tracking.

Dear Cyberlude, Yes you are right though it is called renewal they don't revalidate the current passport but they issue a new passport in lieu. You have done the right thing by not using ordinary mail to post your passport with your application. Best of luck and hope you would get back the new passport soon.

Hello All, I am trying to get my passport renewed from Nepal Embassy in United States. My Visa is already expired on 2013. Do they inquire about my visa when I submit my old passport to get renewed?
