Dear Pratistha,

today we thank god almighty for listening to our prayers. with so many people praying and hoping for the safe return of yours from the moment you disappeared in a rather mysterious circumstance, we knew that it's gonna be hard even for god to ignore our prayers.

whatever might be the reason behind your escape, recovering you in good shape is the most important thing for us-- "an achievement" if someone wants to call.

on a personal note, i can't help myself from not admiring you because you seem to be a very bold, stubborn and an independent lady. i mean how many of us can dare to run away from friends, family and well wishers and live in a mountain (jungle?) for 15 freaking days????? it gives me creep even when i imagine myself doing that...but you did it and showed us what you are made up of. perhaps if you use your boldness for something more productive than this, then we are pretty much sure that you have all the making of the first ever "iron lady" of Nepal. it is just like if girija, sher bahadur et. al could show their commitment for their respective stances, then there would not be "feb 1st 2005". :)

we hope that you will be more thoughtful and will apply yourself more logically in the future before deciding on doing such things.

finally, we thank Estes park Police and all the concerned local authorities of Estes Park for helping us (nepalese) with full efforts, given the circumstances. Thanks are also due to the witness who spotted Pratistha and informed the police.

Thanks.

A Nepali
Loote

I don't think she wanted any attention in the first place. Probably, she was trying to run away from attention. Often we Nepali think depression is not a problem. It is a desease itself. I have locked myself up for 13 days inside an apt one time. However, i had no loyal friends like this girl had so no one noticed that i was in there for 13 days.
life in America is very hard. Actually it is not hard but the expectations we have from our friends and family makes it worse.
I don't know when we Nepali gonna be smart like Indians and come here in masters program. Do you hear any indians missing in Estes park , working for summer job. hell summer job, illegal - unauthorized job. Indians are smart to come for their masters, where they get paid. After a couple of years they work under h1 and bring thier wives, drive new cars. While Nepali students go work i n estes park and ocean city maryland, illegal, unauthorized. Stupid friends back home see the pics taken in mountains and think life is the usa is so chill and they are being under privillaged. Next year they come to undergrad program themselves and end up workin in an amusement park of ocean city or some sweet shop in estes park.
i think all unauhorized Nepalis working in estes park and OC maryland should be punished. So they will tell thier friends back home that it is not as easy as it looks. So finally Nepali students come in masters program too and don't get killed in gasstation, car accidents, lost in estes park or shoot someone accidently while living rough life and working like slaves to save money and go to school. Wake up my people. Stop this unautorized students working like slaves tradition.
please save the future generation. share your hard times..

Loote, dude..
It is not right for us to blame pratistha because of several reason. But you are making joke out of yourself by prasing what she did.If she was my sister , she would get good slap from me.but i cannot judge other people dusghers and sis.May be she has problems So i am giving her benefit of doubt by not cusing her in public.BUT you have totally gone out of your way.remember this kind of news in US news media is not particularly favorable to nepalese community.Think before you speak!!!!

okay i did NOT expect this thread to go this long when i posted it. i don't mind the length of the thread, but some of the postings here have made me feel really bad and i have started to feel guilty now.

1) Pratistha is like a sister figure to me and being a nepali, i happen to care for her just like most of we do.

2) i wrote this letter in mere excitement of her safe return and i wanted to thank estes park police and all other concerned local bodies as well.

3) i am not sure and i don't care about the reason behind her escape. what is most important is to find her alive and in good shape. i made this little sarcastic remark just in case if she happened to escape on her own will without been dictated by any illness (god forbids).

4) the intent was purely to express the excitement of her return and nothing else. i hope people don't extend this thread with assumptions and conspiracy theories.

5) Lastly, I apologize to Pratistha and her friends, family, well-wishers or anyone who read this thread and was hurt or felt bad about it in any way. I reiterate that the motive behind the letter was just to thank and nothing else. May lord bless Pratistha and protect her from any undue harm, injury or risk in the future. Amen!!

Thanks.

Loote

dyamn dude. what are you implying. although i agree with you on some of your views but i am sorry to say nepalis didn't come to US on their free wills.
look at the opportunities in our country. what can we do? or maybe what can our government do?
there are so many SLC and college graduates every year but the country remains stationary in terms of economic and job opportunities.
at least by coming into us they could curve some niche for themselves.
and yes Nepalis work illegally. but given the economic condition of nepal do you think nepalis parents can afford to finanace their education.

also US embassy knows that nepalis simply cannot afford to finance their studies in US but still gives VISA......why?
because it knows that nepalis are providing with cheap labor force.
it is a win-win situation for US.

dyamn bro,
I am in touch with lots of indians who ended up getting a good job and probably had better life than nepalese in terms of financial situations. But I completely disagree with your idea of Nepalese only coming to USA for masters or PHD program.
To wat I have observed, hard work reaps success, and regardless of one's turbulent four years undergraduate program, if you can maintain your decorum, there are way more opportunities, probably more than after coming here after one's undergraduate.
I am an undergraduate myself and I see all the graduate indian students. They themselves ask me and my friends, how easily we blend with American friends and American culture, which for them is an ordeal, cause they spent the "friendship-building" phase back home in India and only came here for "professionalRelation-building".
I haven't worked at Estes park or ocean city, but I appreicate all my nepalese counterparts for having the courage to come to a foreign land to venture for a difficult but reaping career.

About Pratistha, I would have been mad if I was her brother, but I am glad that she is back. To all my friends, guys watch out when you are working at places as such. Some of the places are really sketchy and we should learn to take care of ourselves.

Hi all,

Once Sunita too dissapeared like this girl in Kathmandu. I tried my best looking for her on all the MOMO Shops in KTM, she liked MOMO a lot.

May her soul rest in Peace.

Very good response.
What the hell is she trying to prove?
Tell me frankly, does any Nepali in the US have a comfortable lifestyle? What was she expecting? She should be dreaming of 'bedding' a white or a black male and get a cofortable way of living. It failed and she acted up. Otherwise, how is it possible for no Nepali friends to know of her plans and tantrums?

so are you suggesting that one shouldwork like a slave , risk their life and torture themselves and thier family so they could " blend in " with the white people?
screw that, if blending in was so imp , american companies wouldnot be booking flights to indian and bringing indians in h1bs. they would be head hunting in estes park and ocean city for propestive employee.
i have seen tons of college grads not finding jobs in the usa... who are totally blended in , while masala stinking indians grabing the jobs that should've been occupied by blended degree holders...
