Source: Nepalnews.com. It should be done this way !! It really sux following/cliking the url. NT to build 30-storied building The state-owned Nepal Telecom (NT) has said that it is all set to begin the construction of a 100m high 30-storied multi-complex, which would be the tallest in South Asia, reports said. The plan was prepared a year ago but construction has not begun due to delay of approval from the government. Reports said the government has now agreed on principle. The NT has created a nine-member coordination committee including representatives from Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan City and the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC) for the construction. NT plans to hire international construction companies to carryout the works, which would probably in Jawalakhel or Baber Mahal area, reports said. The complex would have office space of 500,000 sq. ft with an estimated cost of over Rs 2 billion. The proposed complex would accommodate all NT offices which is now spread in many locations in Kathmandu valley. A 28-storied building in Mumbai is the tallest building in the South Asian region. nepalnews.com ia Feb 17 06

This is good news. If they can pull it off. If they can deal with all other issues including security. Investment is always good for the economy. Common guys show some support for something good..

If they decided to build 30 storey building they need to create some rules first. Just like this: 1. All the senior level staff of NTA will occupy the top floors so that when there is load shedding, they have good reason not to go to office because they cannot climb stairs and of course back up generator would be out of diesel (high diesel cost) 2. Telephone application department will be located on 29th floor and it will cost Rs. 2000.00 to use the elevator. Also, it will cost Rs. 5 to look at floors above 15th from land below. Using this strategy, the building will be self sufficient in 2 years 3. They can add a giant antenna to cover all over nepal in their rooftop so that no more maoist bombing their towers.

Raman, thank you so much for your interest in sharing your mp3 with me. There are few ways you can share them with me and the rest of the sajha members, I think the best way would be to host them @ www.rapidshare.de and provide the link for us. That way anyone interested would be abe to download the songs. Once again thank you so much and have a nice day, mate !! Regards, Rai

. Earthquake disaster comparision between two Earthquake in Kobe 1995 and in Nepal in 1934. Degree of damage was very high in Kobe in 1995 even it was only 6.4 scala. Even earthquake safe buildings were zero leveled. Nepal can have upto 8.4 scala according to the past records. To protect from this kind of unusual natural movement, Earthquake safety high tech engineering is necessary and that would cost way beyond Telecom´s Vision. Even the regular maintainance alone cannot be financed by 500 Rupees /Square Meter rent. . .

Hello, I think you guys should not be pessimistic. Most likely, NTC might be the only corporation to have money to afford the building. (apart from the govt. hassels and under the table money for contracts. ) Let them build it and we shall follow with 50, 60 who knows in the future..... And yes, we do need more of standardized office building in Nepal. Not, office in ancient palaces and people's houses.. And you guys thinking about Maoist destroying the building. When will the development take place? All the NTC buildings should be insured. (I think they are. Insurance companies are making money in Nepal.)

Sayami - u too an engineer/architect? For your information, Taipei 101 is the tallest building in the world amongst the one that actually exist. Amongst projects in pipeline, South Korea is planning one that would be around 120 metres (as far as I can recall) taller than Taipei 101 somewhere in an island in the eastern coast but it would be way-way wider and spacious as the foundation conditions will require it to be more-or-less of a pyramid type. It had been talked about in a conference some time ago although now I searched a lot but still could not find any link to it. On top of that, the tallest building in the world is actually going to be constructed, and is in the design stages now, in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India . Given the fact that it will be 710 meters tall (and taller by good 200 metres over the current tallest building in the world), it will definitely hold its crown for a good deal of time. The proposed NT building in Nepal, I guess, could still likely compete based on the "top of the building from Mean Sea Level" but not from the "height of structure from the foundation bed". Or maybe they can still make a building in Solukhumbu if they really are going for a game. Links of the Noida, UP building in India, - http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,3604,1447712,00.html and - http://www.projectsmonitor.com/detailnews.asp?newsid=8951 Keep building...

I can't believe the tallest building in whole south asia is just 100 m tall. Aren't there any taller buildings in Indian metropolis, in bombay, Delhi? And about having the tallest building in nepal, I give nepalese government an absolute go from my side.

Sahila, u r right. just got these stats from wikipedia, tallest buildings: Bangladesh: Bank of Bangladesh Building: 115 M India: Mumbai Television Tower: 300 M Nepal: Grand Hotel: 12 floors: ??? (betwn 50-60 M????) kalimati ko ho ki jasto lagyo-??? Pakistan: MCB Towers: 107 M Sri Lanka: World Trade Center Colombo: 152 M Source - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_and_structures_by_country I guess NTC should go for >300 M the likelihood of which is well-known. So the best bet would be to argue for "roof of the building above mean sea level" ;) Keep building...

South Aisa ko tallest bhane pachhi, sabai bhanda aglo banaune ho. that doesnot mean that it would only be 100 mtrs. If the present tallest is 300 m (mumbai, I don't know though), then ours would be atleast 301, dudes. Khoi buddhi prayoug gareko? Angelina: I think they are talking about south Asia not sount east Asia I guess.
