jptsharma ji,
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I have open date ticket via Newark --> London --> Doha --> Ktm. It will be Continental Airlines to London and then Qatar airways to Ktm.

I am looking for somebody who're going to that route so that I can confirm the ticket.

I've received this email recently from ncnc2003@yahoo.com. I'm not sure he is going to the same route as you mention, but hope it might help you.

Could not help but read the thread. Just wanted to bring to people's notice that people need to have a visa to UK, even if you are on transit. Thats what i recently found out from one of my cousin who recently came back from nepal couple of weeks ago. So call your travel agent and make sure that you have everything unless you want to be stranded. I was gonna go thru london too but i changed my flight route from Newark to Frankfurt to Doha to Kathmandu. Peace

Mamta,

To my knowledge, you need a transit visa at UK as a Nepali passport holder unless you are a US permanent resident. You should be able to apply for the visa at the designated British consulate for your area.

This is getting random now.

If I go by what's written on their website (- http://www.britainusa.com/visas/other_show.asp?SarticleType=25&Other_ID=313#exempt), I do not need a transit visa.

If I listen to people who have actually gone through the route, some say you need it while some say you do not.

Do those immigration officers act randomly?

Btw, how long are you going get stranded there if you do not have a transit visa? Are those officers willing to listen to you??

if you hold a nepali passport, but have valid us visa (f-1, h1b), a british transit visa is not needed if the transit duration is going to be short, less than 24 hrs. i learned from an immigration site several months ago. but check with authority first, though to be on safe side.

Some people asked me about the fare, but I didn't get the ticket from the U.S. So can't say about the fare. Sorry!

*********** IMPORTANT ***************
About London transit visa, if you have a valid US visa stamped on your passport, you don't need transit visa. If you just hold H1B, or F1, but no multiple entry visa stamped on your passport, then you need that visa.

Thank you all for your response.

Thanks Rusty,
It makes sense now.
The key word being "multiple entry visa." Those people ( I know) who have been stopped in the past in UK did not have a multiple entry visa. I was trying to find out why some people were stopped and why some were not. Afterall, it was not that random..if that's what it is.

Mamta,
Mind telling us how much you paid for your ticket and around what time you are leaving? Not that I am looking to change my itenary or anything, but just wanted to know what kind of deal you've got. :p
