Does anyone in Nepal or any other Nepalese practice martial arts? If so what styles? How long have you trained? Do you ever go for competitions?

Hi I practise Mixed martial arts (MMA), a new full contact combat sport, invovling boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and ju-jitsu. I've been training for a year, but did do some Kung Fu before...I train in Cardiff and Bristol, UK I've competed a few times, this year i came second in the Welsh Open submission fighting championship and i won a fight at the Amateur MMA championships, it was my first full contact fight so i was happy about that .... ( Nepali Tiger is my fight nick name, everyone calls me that..... gotta fly the flag!!) At the moment i'm training for the Bristish Amateur MMA grand prix to be held on 8th May... i'll post a link for the pics and tell you all how i get on!! I started MMA to just learn, have fun and get fit, now its gone this far...love it!! MatrixRose, nice little soliders..u reallly have to be skillied to paint those, keep it up! how long does it take to paint one of those??? AeutiKT , there is some really useful stuff in Aikdo, TKD is a bit too flashy but good for fitness and flexibilty. Hope that helps Andrew WA, take care all N Tiger : )

I am an expert in Brazilian ju-jitsu..I trained for 2 years with the world renown Gracie brothers...I have participated in many ju-jitsu tournaments and plan to take part in in this years Ultimate Fighting Championship...My style, however, is not only grappling...I have been practicing a technique which I will unveil for the crowd in the UFC finals...a kung-fu style that I like to call "drunken crane-psycho dragon"....But its nice to see another Nepali gaining fame in the martial arts world...Yea, and I got a nickname when I fight here as well...Im known throughout the fighting circuits as "Behram the Original Thug"...cause thats how I do..nah mean

Dan well little soldiers dont bug me....so lemme settle with them. :) NepaliTiger well it really depends....and sometimes i just undercoat them and leave for few days and then start to paint. I use citadel paints which is pretty good. And oh yea Warhammer Figures are my favourites. Right now i am working on these models.

Which Gracie team do you train under?? whats your favourite submission??? mine is armbar caught out 3 people in comps with it. But I like striking too, those muay thai kicks and knees, love 'em. I think it is cool that Nepalis train in martial arts. Nepali Tiger I hope you get really good and I will keep an eye out for you when you enter Pride fighting or UFC or whatever. as for me I do Taekwondo (yes I know your opinion of it and I dont care haha) I am good at TKD and I have good striking skills. But I would love to learn Hapkido for the self defense as well as jui jitsu technbiques or some form of grappling. I took wrestling when I was in 4th grade for a year though haha! I also took karate at age 6 for like a month or 2 and quit and also last yer I took a week of systema! I was anoyed its very weird and im not sure if its realistic or not. Anyway I love Taekwondo! Most TKD schools in the USA are weak and dont train in true TKD and only go for olympics or just selling belts. Also Aikido schools ussually are not very realistic but there is a new faction of aikido that actually has tournaments and they actually spar!! Its cool! So they actually can use their techniques in a fight!! If I had a LOT of money I would train in another school...all I do right now is lift weights and run at the gym.

TKD....i'm glad you enjoy martial arts, i know what u mean about too much Olympic focus, just remember to always think about reality and you can adapt your techniques...Keep it up!!!! U understand reality and good conditioning... sign of a good martial artist! Are u going to watch UFC 52 next month?? Take care N Tiger

u raise a good point Lady Croft, The MARTIAL side i enjoy very much, i like the competition, aggression and physical aspects of martial arts..and have become successful with it. But i also very much like the thought process, skills gained and self expression too.. the ART side. when i am training i feel very liberated.. nothing but task is on my mind... its a great escape from the challenges us young Nepalis face everyday, it has become my medium to express myself.... through the techniques. We all have some form of 'art' by which we express ourselfs, mine is mixed martial arts... i believe MatrixRose's medium is painting these blank small ornaments into ones with colour and life. Am i right??....you sound very passionate... : ) Lady Croft, do u have an 'art'? There is much more to M.A than the sport and physical.. ..this is what i believe based on my experience.... take care N Tiger : )

Nepali Tiger, agree with you on MA being more than just combat/self-defense or a sport to win. When you ask me "Do you have an 'art' ? ", I presume you are talking abt MA, as this thread is abt MA. Hmmm.... well, I learnt Judo for approx. 5 years when I was younger. Initially I was interested in Karate, but due to the unavaliability of a dojo at my distance of convenience I took up Judo [ even tho I was not particularly interested in throwing & grappling]. After that, was busy with studies for a couple of years. Then abt 3 years ago, got an opportunity to know abt the different styles of Shaolin Wushu [Shaolin - young/new forest, Wu - military, Shu - art] , frm a friend of mine who was a student at a reputed school. I was particularly fascinated with Taiji-quan, but was unable to devote as much time as I would like to its practice, due to studies and other stuffs. What I wanted to share was, over the years continuing my hobby on/off has helped me deal in a better way with other aspects of my life as well .And it sure aids oneself mentally, spiritually, physically and at its very simplest as a means of self-defense. P.S. Did I forget to mention I'm terrible at Taiqi-quan ! :(

Despite my vast knowledge in the martial arts field...I do not prefer a certain style over the others...I have assimilated all the styles I know into a unique blend and molded it into a new technique of fighting...However, this technique of fighting has no constraints or limitations as far as body movements, posture, stance etc...It simply requires that I beat the living shit out of my opponent by any means necessary...Even if I have to hit them over the head with a crowbar...My sensai is probably rolling over in his grave right now seeing what his disciple has turned into...But that was his downfall, he was stabbed in broad daylight in Cambodia about 9 years ago...Thats why I never lower my eyes to an enemy...And everyone is a potential enemy.

Nepali Tiger you said "i Andrew W A... Take care N Tiger " I dont think I will see UFC 52 it is WAY TO EXPENSIVE to order!!!!! But yes I love TKD and I like the art. I find it very effective for strikes and kicks no matter what people believe. Most all martial arts have same techniques anyway!! I also want to practice TKD for its art and learn all its forms and express myself like that. Also I realize TKD does not have efficient grappling so I want to learn a grappling style as well. I have another question has anyone heard of BUDOKAI?? Some website is claiming it is an original nepali martial art but I think the guy is totally lying!! It just seems he is ripping of kyokoshin karate and trying to get famouse for things he did not do. I dont think there is an original nepali martial art. IF there is let me know. Anyway rock on!
