Recently saw Nepathya plastered over the walls of many people in US. Personally I don't see what the big deal is with their music. They are just another music band.

Nepathya might be overrated for new generation, but in Nepalese music industry, they are the most popular, and successful musical band.
Personally, I never been to their live concerts, so can't really say anything about their live performance.
Due respect for Nepathya !!
Long live nepali folk-pop music

Are you kidding me? They are the legends. You just have a different taste. If you are not into the genre they sing, then don't belittle them.

KtmRulez,
I respect your preference since it is not going to unduly inconvenience somebody else.

But,
I thought a lot of things in life were over-rated some years ago, SEX being one. Now that I understand more, my perspective (on it) is different. ;)

The question now is why is Nepathya or their music ( allegedly in your view ) popular among people.

A lot of Nepathya's songs gained prominence because of that melodious tunes ( सुमधुर ), irresistible funky beats ( नाचू नाचू लाग्ने ) , and folksy-styled ( झ्याउरे ) numbers. Here is what a refugee Tibetan guy , who had quite soaked up Nepali culture during his formative years in Kathmandu, had to say about that music genre, " ...are you kidding me?... Nepali jhaure folk music is even better than Raggae....". And Nepathya fans do vote for that popularity with their hard-earned money; that says something about how genuine this cross-generational popularity is. Jhyaaure music is something that is in a Nepali's blood and it appeals to us naturally.

With the spectrum of jhaaure songs to choose from Nepathya's live shows become even more fun to attend. Compared to other Nepali bands, Nepathya has had the largest live-venues be it in New York, London, and probably Dubai or Tokyo and many more.

Acclaimed vocalist Udit Narayan Jha once said to the effect of what the main attribute of a great song is its - melody/tunes. Nepathya's songs like "Chhekyo Chhekyo", "Yo Zindagani", "Aaganai Bhari" testify to that part of the allure.

Nepathya is unique and they sounds unique too. Here's what Amrit Gurung, the band's talisman, had to say after a live show abroad which reflects the band's primal philosophy:
"I don’t know if they liked it or not but what I felt was we were different and we sounded like a Nepali band. We have to sound like a Nepali band, that’s one of the basic foundations of Nepathya. There are thousands of rock bands in the world. There’s no point if a band sounds like Deep Purple or Led Zeppelin. That’s what I always say to my band members – we have to sound like a Nepali band. There are numerous guitarists who can play like Hendrix but what’s the point."

just because you love his singing doesnt mean everyone should love listening to him. His songs are mostly sad, full of pain and tragedy.

When I was a kid, I never liked naryan gopal, whenever my father played naryan gopal's song in a tape (remember we used to have that cassette those days :) ) , either I would have gone to another room or would have gone outside to play.

Then a miracle happened. I grew up and god dammn life happened. Slowly, I started to fall in love with narayan gopal's song. Now, I don't think there is any one in Nepal, who can have such a great quality in their songs with such a great voice. Naryan Gopal is simply a legend.

The point is let people understand something by themselves. It is useless to feed an opinion to someone. If they don't want to realize then they won't and no one can make them either. I hope that one day he might and eventually will like those songs by naryan gopal. Its just a matter of time.

Regarding the disrespect, well don't worry about it, because one wise teacher said once "Be cool with younger people, respect builds over life time.

I like Nepathya as his song is evergreen that covers lots of genre. He has sung rock, classical, fast beat and catchy songs. Love his voice and his lyrics is thet nepali. Grown up listening to his song and he is a superb artist and the band itself is great

Arun thapa is now legend. i still dont get why narayan gopal is so hyped. Its not like he had a really good social behaviour or did something good to other people as well.
Why do most nepalese really want others to like the same things that they like?

i have gone through the age of 20s and never ever liked his songs. such sad songs it is.
May be most people like his songs because it is filled with memories. memories with our past, our younger days and people like remmebering to stuff. May be thats why.

I listened to Modern Talking today over my evening meal. It does not matter what others think about your taste of music.
Arun Thapa's work has definitely stood the test of time for its Nepali-pan. Narayan Gopal(NG) was also a great singer but I don't particularly enjoy listening to his songs anymore except a handful like 'Mohani Laaglaa Hai', 'Maanchhe ko maayaa' and a couple others. The NG song that was supposed to remain a poem and not a song, IMHO, was 'Diutaa Phool Deuraalimaa'. LOL! The truth is a majority of later NG songs were ghazals and that would not appeal to someone trying to listening to some genuine Nepali style music. Don't get me wrong, I love ghazals like those of Jagjit Singh, for example. Narayan Gopal had a lot of Kathmanduites clout who lobbied to award him the 'Swor Samraat'. You could award all the the available awards to him but he won't be on my top 'to Listen to List'. Now I listen to the Udit Narayan's rare radio Nepal songs occasionally and his gifted vocals still come through brilliantly. For example, take a moment to listen to 'Darpan Chhayaa', 'Timi Aauchaau Bhanne Aasai Aashaa maa', the original Kusume Rumaal soundtrack. You will then realize what made Udit Narayn the most celebrated international singer of Nepali origin.

Imagine replacing this entire song with another song with some modern lyric, performed in pure heavy metal or bluesy style and performed among some NY skyscrappers instead of the flanking Bhaktapur durbar square. In short, I am talking about doing away with the whole thing that makes Nepal and that underlines that Nepalipan. How would the video turn out with that kind of staging?
