My friend's dad has been diagnosed with cancer. He is a green card holder and his dad has a tourist visa. Since his dad doesn't have insurance, 1.if he wants to diagnose/treat in US, how should he proceed? is there any possibility of getting medicare/medicaid? which hospital/where should he go? are there any charity hospitals? 2. how about india? is it good? how does it compare to US? which hospitals/clinics are good? Please let me know folks, any help will be deeply appreciated.

What's your friend's income? if his income is in the lower income category then he can apply for gold card for his father and get the treatment for less cost. but nothing is free for sure.. i have heard about some hospital in WC about the best cancer treatment for free but I am not sure about the age range. There are different kind of cancers. So, just make sure what kind of cancer your's friend dad have. In that way you can better explain while making inquiry. I hope you get better help from other people too. Wish ur friends dad all the best and i wish he get well soon...

Thank you guys. He found that even in India, its not cheap. They said it will take probably 75 lakhs for treatment (in Medanta Hospital). If it is possible, why not do it over here in the US in that case? Please let me know what are the options available in US. What hospital/organization he needs to goto? How should he approach the hospital? Please let me know guys. Thank you so much.

Sorry to hear this. I don't want to sound pessimistic, but as far I know, cancer treatment is heck of expensive in US, that's the reason most insurance also don't even cover it. I would recommend your friend to contact social service department of any cancer center and try to collect as much information as possible. I am pretty sure if you show duck face to some social worker, they will give you most information and also hook you with some oncologist who will tell all avaiable options and may be cost associated with it. And my sincere suggestion is go beyond that, and have appointment with oncologist , have him see all reports and make final decision based on their recommendation.
