EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.
A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5. ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF.
THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29. WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

Huh! this question was asked by one of my army uncle when i was a kid. Let me rack the brain.
In the question, the trick is whole number and the people are add (3). So one buck is slipping somwhere.

Let make this easy :>

Assume each had just $ 10 in their pocket.
They paid 25. Each owed $ 8.33.
They got $ 1 each. It makes $ 9.33.
Bell boy got $ 2. It means $ 0.66 from each. It makes $ 10.00.
Simple!
Actually they pay $ 8.33 for the room.
It is an interesting question though!

think of it this way...

they paid TOTAL of $30
hotel kept $25
bell boy kept $2
and each of the 3 ppl got $1 back

so, 25 + 2 + 3 = 30

Yes nepalean is right. That $2 tips is already added in $9 share because room rent is $25. ie. 25/3 = $8.33, which $0.67 less than $9. Now, if you multiply $0.67 by 3, you would approx. get $2, which is the tips that the bell boy already got.

There is no need to $2, that's just the flaw in the question itself.

Obviously bhaute knows there is no miscalculation. If it is analyzed any other way, it makes sense...so stop throwing your interpretations. Try to find the mistake in the question.

That's what everyone here's been trying to explain to Bhate. There's no missing dollar at all! Seems like bhate hasn't had any bhat today.. he's in no position to accept that the question itself is wrong.

Read my posting immediately after the one you are talking about. I have corrected it. The generalization I tried to make was actually,

n times (more) eggs --> n times (more) kukhura
n times (more) kukhura --> (n+1) times (more) eggs

Galaab, I didn't wanted to comment.... just saying for fun. I don't mean you will 'really' say kukhura can be more than eggs..
