There are always UPs and Downs. As ANA gets bigger more discrepancies are expected.

But yes, As compared to the Concert program from the years back in Virginia, Denver and Scottsdale- the one At Dalllas was the Most disorganized. With all due respect to the folks who had put their time and money to make the show as Good as possible I still have to say that THings could have been made much better. Come on man "freaking One Hour to that Karma band" that's just too much. Yes you like to promote your local band but......... the Main show was DB.... you guys needed to show some respect to Him. welll, lots of people had already expressed thier dissatisfactions so I am not gonna add more to that.

everyboyd Relaxz..... ANA in NYC might be more organized.... but Helll yeah you will see More BRowls for sure. Oh, and surely there will be lot more crowd participitations and lots of teams in all the sporting events. I just hope the sporting gets more competitive.

Aight.... peace out
and Jai Nepal

proud is back

What the hell is going on here? Why do we always complain?
I came all the way from the Bronx with my friends, and had a great time. I am so tired of people complaining at everything.
Karma, if any of you is looking at this thread, I want you to know that you guys did great (I am speaking on behalf of a lot of my friends). You could have cut down on some of your songs, and the sound system could've been better ( like when you came to NY last yr), but we really enjoyed the show.
The people who are complaining have either gone to one too many Indian concerts and dont know what a concert is all about, or they are just whiners that whine about anything.
and regarding ticket price, guess what: I paid $10 for 8 crappy momos, $9 for thikai dal bhat, and $7 for a bottle of beer. thats $26 for whoever is keeping count. If any of you spent even close to that amount or more ( which I think most of us did), then why you are complaining about the $25 ticket price beats me.
Yes, it could've been a lot better, but isnt that something we have been whining about ever since this annual mela started what 7-8 yrs ago?
Guys, if you dont like this event that much, do us all a favor and dont show up next year. Life is too short to look at nothing but the negatives.
Peace.

I cannot agree with you more Jhyalincha. Some people whine in life for just about anything. I know the band Karma pretty well and it was really nice to see them again this year. I have seen their previous shows and they are really good, probably the best Nepali band based out of US. You could blame it on the sound system and poor organization of ANA concert for their less than average show last weekend. Those guys are very devoted musicians and have managed to take out time from their busy professional lives to work on music. All of their concerts in the past have rocked the crowd. I bought their CD and I like it a lot; it is totally different from everyday Joe, Harry Nepali band.Their original music composition is well above the mainstream Nepali music. Those guys have a great future. All the best to you Karma.

Who is whining?? The concert sucks. The ads highlighted DB. Audience did not pay to see Karma. Audience paid to see DB. Get the facts clear. Audience paid to" THe star who came all the way from Nepal." Not the local wannabes.

From now on as you wise cracks say the ANA should say, somebody from Nepal is coming and instead just play some freak show on the stage.

I disagree with the people who say we should not complain. It's an undisputable fact that the concert could have been done better. Why set our expecations and standards low and say "bhaihalcha ni", chali halchani"... we should keep raising the issue until the next organizers gets it right otherwise whats the incentive for them to improve? If we all say, thik cha chali halcha ni, then we will always be happy with mediocricy.

Its simple to me, if I paid 5 bucks for a hamburger, there better be meat in it, cuz I sure didn't pay 5 bucks just for the buns.

These criticisms are not personal but I demand more and better from my fellow Nepalese brothers and sisters. Its about time we stop being content with je bhae pani chali haalcha ni attitude so I am not gonna just say, eh bhaihaalcha ni, thikai cha ni. It won't just do, next time it has to be better.

You could not have said any better K'Dude.
I expect according to what I pay. If I pay $1 for a concert, I cannot expect to see Metallica perform. But if I pay $25, I expect it to be worthy.

Yes, the concert was poorly organized -- the timing was off, the setup was rushed, there was NO time for vocal or instrument tests, the audience expectations were not set up properly (DB only supposed to sing a few numbers), hell people even tried to squeeze in the trophy distribution and raffle drawings in the middle of the concert. The list continues?.

Unfortunately SHIT happens and there are a lot of would have, could have, should haves. The allegations made on this thread regarding showing no respect to DB, ignoring DB, who managed the concert and who did not, who favored which band and who did not are all BULL SHIT. The reality is that each band had the necessary caliber, skills and talent in their own unique way to be invited to perform in the first place. Some band members had more airtime than others, but it was not out of disrespect or favoritism to anyone. If one band was not necessarily your cup of tea, then you could have moved on, left the room and joined back when you so desired. The whole idea of having such an eclectic group of bands was to try and cater to a variety of music lovers so everyone could get some entertainment out of the event. And of course yes, there were things that could have been done differently. I am not advocating that we settle for less.

I personally really enjoyed the concert ? all of it. And I commend all the artists for doing a great job. Unwritten Karma, I bought your CD ? it rocks and I agree with Damage Plan ? it is quite different from mainstream Nepali songs and very catchy tunes. I really like it!

By the way, the artists did move the crowd, despite all the unfortunate circumstances. If you don?t believe me, check out the photos. Pictures always speak louder than words.

Its unfortunate that NST did all the hard work, while the East coast old folks, who control ANA (like their family inheritance) get all the credit.

My hats off to Bhaikunta Thapa and gang for their immense effort. Inspite of few glitches, the convention went smooth.

TO ALL THAT ARE BITTERLY COMPLAINING-
Don't quit your day time job (if you have one that is). I Promise, you will never ever ever qualify in the Siskel & Rupert industry or the like (not even close).

TO THE KARMA BAND-
Kudos to the "rocking" performance being a fairly new band and appearing first time in ANA. Don't listen to the whiners, let them pout all they want. Least that happens is their typing skill improvement (lets hope).

TO THE ORGANIZERS-
With a tough responsibility that you've had, you guys came out quite alright. Thanks for putting up a great event. And the FREE DJ Nite on Saturday at your expense that most of the complainers forget about ( i wouldn't listen to them although its quite funny :)

Somebody just answer this. WHo is suppose to be opener and who is suppose to be the main performer? Have you ever seen any concert where the main performer performs few songs and the opners are given all time. WHy the heck is this false advertisement for?

Is there some dictatorship or what that even can raise a valid question. People came there despite their busy schdule to get entertained.

Lets look at the positives:
I met so many of my near and dear friends.
It was like a little Nepal had been created for 3 days: after all isnt that what Nepal is all about? all the mayhem, exorbitant pricing, too much drinking, smoking and of course brawling ( if there is such a word!)
I just cannot handle the complaints of people about the price. what the heck is going on?
you are telling me you are willing to fork over $300.00 plane ticket which was not business class, you are paying $70.00/night for a hotel room that is the cheapest possible, and you are paying $7.00 for beer that is not even Tuborg.
And you are F****** complaining about ticket prices, and not getting your money's worth?

Once again, I loved this convention. I did not come to the convention for a world class concert, or a business gathering. It was a mini vacation for me. I loved the mayhem, the helter skelter, in short 'everything'. And I absolutely loved the concert, for all its craziness. Lots of good lookin'uns in there too :) Go Karma!

I will be there next convention. I am not rich or anything, but if you are still whining about this next year, scream "jhyalincha" in NY's hotel lobby and I will give you your 25 back.( make a copy of this for proof, you losers!)
This is exactly why I am both proud and ashamed to be a Nepali at the same time. We never can do anything on our own, and when some one attempts to (no matter how it turns out), we are so quick to bring them down. Goddamm it!

Well, I think Karma was the only band who were able to control the crowd. Else I bet the fight would have started. The crowd was so uncontrolable. Why can't we nepalis act like a civilized human being? Why do we Nepalis have to act like junglis?

I am not upset about spending $125 for the concert, $125 for the cultural program, $100 for registration, $40 for Momo, $20 for samosa or $9 for Frooty for my families at the convention. I am not even upset about driving all the way to Dallas for the convention and spending 3 nite's in Marriot which was about $217.82..Besides, there were further expenses like buying clothes, eating, drinking and buying a couple of Cd's ...I met my old frens and my relatives, infact, i felt like a heaven on earth....I know those who organized this convention did not wanted the convention to be boring but dont i even have a right to talk about it out here! Why dont you guys mind your own business and quit telling ppl what is rite and what is wrong...I spent around $1300 altogether for the convention and as a matter of fact i was not happy at all....

I did not stay there till DB came to the stage to perform because the environment out there sucked..People screaming, throwing beer cans and coke bottles, bad sound system(could not hear anything just ppl screamin' -i was sitting at the 10th row)..Well, i know Baikuntha Dai and his teams worked day and nite to make this convention "The Best" but i think everything was shattered at the end.

Well, sorry if anybody is hurt out here but thats what i felt....I Hope that NYC 06' will be much organized and better than this one!

To Highfly
I have been to many concerts where the openers played more songs than the headlining act, eg Annie Lennox/Sting, Bryan Adams/Def Leppard, Godsmack played more songs than Metallica, I can go on forever to contradict your statement. There is no rule which states that headliners must perform longer than the openers. They are called Headliners to attract people because they are more popular than the openers. What you have yet to fathom is that Deepak Bajracharya did not bring his band and he had to get together with other musicians available during ANA. They practiced 5-6 songs for the concert within 3 days. Does that help you understand why Deepak did not have 16 songs for you to dance to?

What are you referring to "false advertisement" as? I don't recall seeing anything that stated the number of songs or time slots each band would take? Could you be more specific please? I doubt that you are concerned just because the headliner performed less items than the openers. If there is something else you would like to share with us, our ears are open.

To other whiners who think they are complaining
We have enough information on this thread explaining why the concert did not meet some people's expectations. If you are in denial and want to carry on whining, ignoring what has already been stated on previous messages, be my guest but If you want to be heard and you want to make a difference, step up to the plate and send your complaints to ANA. You can google search to get their contact infomration or get to their site from Sajha's home page. Statements that you have referred to as your "complaints" will not make much difference if it stays on this site.

Fill us in when you hear back, we are part of this community and we are always striving for the better world.
