Bisal,

You know what we are not saying here any bullshit we are just saying what is true. Nepal never been colonized means its never, we are not arguing here that why its not been colonized or it would be better or not if it was colonized before.

I dont know about you but being Nepali it hurts me when people say bullshit about Nepal which is not true. So that means

if your parents are uneducated, you are from very poor background and from low level family but you studied well, went to another country, made some progress then you will say they are not my parents? you dont deserve them? you dont love them? You wont say you are Nepali??

Of course we dint do anything now because we cant now...Its just happen to be like this so face the truth and be happy what you have if you cant change.

Bisal
Pride is a delicate matter. We do NOT have national pride while in Nepal, you can tell from things we hear in the news. But as soon as you leave Tribhuvan International Airport, the overwhelming pride and identity of Nepal comes into mind while you have to face the rest of the world. But here is the reality, we do not have anything of significance to be proud of. We did not invent moder marvel, we do not have modern architecture, no achievements, anything that we can put it forward at the table and the people of the world will be like "WOW". The few things we have like Mt. Everts and Buddha are the only one, even though we did not do anything or worked hard to achieve them, they were simply there. We scramble to find our identity and hence Prasant, Udit and Tenzin comes in the equation. Many Nepali living outside had been hanging on the thin string of irrelevant pride, many have let it go, many trying to find that string (gc1488 looking for one right now).
Yes, it might look stupid, but what exactly do we have besides these? We're a nation of people with a pride that is bigger than Mt. Everest of Mt. Everest itself.

I think what really matters is how you're approaching and reacting with people at work.So your attitude towards them and their comment is the most important thing. I used to get in arguments all the time, because i used to think we were the best people, mount everest, buddha, best army and all. but it's all point less. Specially, Americans are so cocky about their nationality and guess what they deserve to be like that. they have worked hard to accomplish that. and we come here to work and struggle in their establishment, so it's humble to be respectful to their accomplisment.

like someone said on the earlier post, mount everest and buddha just happen to be in Nepal. We did not work hard for them. If they harash you at work, go to HR and complain about them. try not to get into arguments , it's not worth it. What does it matter whether Nepal was colonized or not. it seems like you guys are fightin for ego and you want some ammo from here.

I think the answer to your question that many people said it in different i ways is that Nepal was not colonized but it lost darjeeling , sikkim etc to British. so it paid a price to say not get colonized. It bowed down to the british. ranas bent over and accepted them as their bosse, and they were happy to have their servants ruiling a country where they saw no benifit to colonize. Why would they colonize Nepal anyway, there was no gold, no spices or even slaves like India did.

As we all know that we were never ruled by outsiders. If a non-Nepalese question you about Nepal being colonized, then I don’t thing it’s a big deal, you shouldn’t bump your head on the wall and write a thread on Sajha. I was once told that Mt. Everest is in Canada. Do you think it’s worth to educate that stupid who’ve never been out of Texas? Do you think I should have made a thread on Shajha?

I am pretty sure most of all Shajhaties know the truth. I don’t think any non-Nepalese read Shajha. There is no point to make this thread longer and longer.

First of all its not about attittude or ego. Discussions and arguments are always good if healthy. I do understand what you are saying . But when you talk with people no matter where are they from and who they are of course your country and your people come in the picture, at least I do mention that as thats my identity and if someone try to make you down for the things you are not or try to be smart ass against you by saying the things about your own and which you know better than them, then I cant accept that that doesnt mean I will be aggressive physically lol. It may depends on the people but I cant be like lute kukur (hidding the tails in its back). If you cant respond or talk when needed then you will always get dominated by others no matter which country you are from, its human nature doesnt applicable for any cast, religion or country.

Thats why I created the thread so that we can share the information which I think is useful and I am sure this is not only my problem and its always good to be aware of the history of your own country which most of the people dont know much so do I.

By the way, Mitra I do know also sajha readers are mostly Nepali, thats the only reason I posted here and You dont need to teach me about creating threads and all. What you think sajha and other same kind of sites are for otherwise, of course to share the knowledge, infromation.......

This thread is moving to pride rather than colonized or non-colonized issues. So, I pop in to share one of my experience, i think it was 6-7 yrs ago.

A British friend of mine was praising Nepal and Nepalese people for providing them Gurkha people to serve their country. He said British society encourage its youth-mass to learn from Gurkha people and serve the country. The message is if they can come to die for us, why can't we die for our owns?  He indeed knew a lot of stuffs about Nepal, its history, culture, foreign relations etc. He was describing all these to me and other people around, in fact was exaggerating a lot than what it should be, that I felt shy and uncomfortable at the moment. A ShriLankan guy got surprised (may be irritated) to hear all these and asked why Nepal is not strong and systematic these days despite having such a good people, desciplined, devoted, cultured.... Why Nepal's army was not able to control maoist insurgency? I tried to describe the maoists were supported by India despite they officially have put terrorist tag on maoists. At that time everybody (except Nepalese) used to suspect China for planting communist rebels in Nepal. They asked other follow up questions and I detailed my opinions but, to be honest, I don't believe they understood or accepted my point. The talk somehow diverted to India's bad policy toward its neighbors because the ShriLankan guy is a Tamil and was suffered by the struggle between Tamils and Singhal, for which he blamed to India. Then the discussion went into sour debate for Indian guys who were present there. They tried to explain good intent of the Indian role on those struggles. Today, when I recal the moment, I think, the whole discussion was because of the british guy who over-praised Gurkha, may be because he found a Nepalese guy listening to him. Ultimately, the discussion ended in hot debate between Indian guys and its anti-indian neighbors that did nothing good but encouraging to guzzle some more Tequila. He He
