Maoists hold massive Nepal rally At least 200,000 people have taken part in a Maoist rally in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu - the first there by the rebels for three years. Streets were hung with banners bearing communist slogans and posters of the Maoist leader, Prachanda. King Gyanendra ended 14 months of absolute rule in April after weeks of pro-democracy protests. The new multi-party government has been holding talks with the Maoists aimed at ending the 10-year insurgency. The Maoists are demanding the dissolution of the government and elections to a new constituent assembly. The BBC's Charles Haviland in Kathmandu says Friday's rally was huge, with people crushed against fences and climbing walls for a better view. . . . Contd. karmarana.. how is maoist in ganyne's payroll????hmmm... They are trying to kick this guy out.So somebody will pay someone else to kick himself out??? Maoist leaders are tired of jungle i guess now they want to make big houses in KTM.Well, some construction workers will get lot of jobs.lol.. With the power they have shown , i don't know how true it could be but they are likely to come to power if the incompetent SPA doesn't do anything proactive . After all commies are good selling dreams to innocent public. They have weapons and they have dedicated cadres, they have most powerful weapon - that is hope for innocent people .who doesn't know what commies have done in past history of the world.

hi ImI, it seems you agree that Maoists are on the payroll of India... but indirectly India controls Maoists as well as Gyane. Unfortunately SPA is also under the grips of India. So it's like a chess game where there are three types of peices, white, black and Gray. Guess what? India moves all those three types of lieces on the chessboard.

I definately agree that nepal's maoist movement would not have taken this height unless indian support. But i do not agree indian central govt would supply arms .This is done by fraction of maoist forces in India. However i agree instability in nepal has own benefits for india as they can control lot of politicians.Nepal has been dependent on india for decades. Even king,SPA and maoist obeys what india says. This is just sad but truth.Look at the maoist stance has changed against india now they are talking big about USA.dumboos of the junglees. India with leftist support in central govt. will galdly accept maoist rule in Nepal. It is just unfortunate for nepalese people.I am very sad to see those hopeful eyes in the gatherings .their hopes will be shattered once maoist comes to power.loss of Freedom and same attitude they have shown nepal for last 10 years- autocratic, killings ."If u speak against me i will cut your toungue "mentality.

Hello Readers ! In my opinion, the maoist have organised a very successful historical mass meeting in the valley. Ever such meeting was observed. This shows that they have managed to gr0w up in 10 years more than 100 folds in the public lap. However, there might be all kinds of people gathered in the mass. but no matter who they are, they all are nepalese people. They came to see or hear the opinion of the cpn (m) who has been fighting for 10 years. Many nepalese have secrified their lives to rescue the land from the feudal domain. I believe they are committed to develop the nation , there is no doubt. In this 21st century, we nepali people still fighting for the peoples right like the people in europe did in 200 years ago. during the French revolution, the people demolshed the feudal structure in the similar way like today cpn (m) is doing in Nepal. I do not agree to Karama Rana , who says "after all commies are good selling dreams to innocent public". The word innocent has very special meaning. Of cource, all people are not involved in the civil war, but they have right to know and judge the 10 years armed rebelian in the country. As a matter of fact, it is the responsibility of the political party to educate them to claim their own rights. Do not try to present people as a blind supporter of Gyane and Parase. the monarchy is a symbol of feudal strucuture. It has continuously ruled for 240 yeras and left Nepal as one of the poorest country in the world. However, I agree to Ranaji who says " they have weapons, they have dedicated cadres". Yes you are right, they may also have most powerful weapons. But Rana ji weapon is guided by political ideology, not the weapon guides the ideology. Therefore, any kinds of weopons can be controlled and managed again by politically. They have very strong and clear cut idea and road map. I am sure they the rising sun in our country. I see what you are saying kasturiji but you need to realize that communist idealogy has been unsuccessful in the past history and has caused much more damage than good. I don't know what kind of vision maoist leaders have but the path they have taken is wrong and no one can justify that in 21 st century. The only way to go is through democracy. If majority of people wants to be under feudal (whatever) SPA and king stucture then they have right too. They voted for it .Yes if there is fair election and people want to go for Maoist then .I have no problem with that. With the idealogy they have reformed maoism (i don't know what they mean) doesn't seem like there is much hope. I definately agree that most of people in nepal has been neglected in past and they should be taken care of thru proper process and channels .carrying gun doesn't give solution. One more thing , if there is fair election .maoist won't get more than 40 seats in HOR .And do you think they did all this to get 40 seats in the parliament?they will have no authority to dictate law.with what they say they need to have 2/3 majority to reform nepal in their style. Is that possible then why are they carrying weapons killing innocent people and making normal working nepalese life hell. i am having very hard time to trust maoist .may be you have full faith in them.

Dear ImI ! It is true that nepal's maoist movement have support from the indian people, but not from the Indian government. Not only this, it has got moral support from all over the world specially from the public sector those who know the sufferings from their rulling class. You must know it is a political war. They are fighting against the semi-feudal and semi-colonial system in the country and also the emperialist internationally, as you say USA for example. But they do not also support the expansionlist India, and that is why they have been demanding to dismiss the unequal treaties. But why you say it is unfortunate to the nepalese people if maoist come to the power? I would say it will furtunate for those people who have been fighting for the freedom since 1990 BS. It is pity to read your comment as saying "I am very sad to see those hopeful eyes in the gatherings ". No reason to be sad if you are not favouring to the feudalism. The royal mandali Gyane, Parase including others are the harmful elements who were involved in the murti chor, murder of Sunita -Namita and Birendra and his family. Do not put the the old glasses on your eyes. there will be freedom and changed political envionment. People like you should not try to be idiot= knowing nothing about poltics but talking loudly as a politician. ImI, you talk about the attitude of cpn (m), autocratic, killings .. and so and so. With some exception and their mistakes in some incidents, this was mostly the propadanda the royal army and its comntrolled media . The brutality of the Shahi satta was seen in Doramba, every one was put in line and shoot one by one. It was seen in the Bhairabnath and several other barracks, killing and disappearing the arrested people from the custudy? The state violated the Geneva convention. Despite this, maoist had been safely realeasing several captured royal solders in the war. There is much difference fellow. Open up your eyes in the new change environment. They will be in power, no doubt and will do the best ever was done before. You keep your toungue, you need to speak against the maoist rule, you will have freedon "mentality". do not afraid.

I am not supporting feudalism but i do not agree the path maoist has taken .you say i will have tougue to speak against them .Well thats what they have said in past history of the world.never kept their words. You don't have to pity me i pity hopeful people like you.Do you think maoist can stand on thier own without india??U are blaming propoganda .Well u may be right in certain extent so what about the propaganda of maoist? no i can not justify the method adopted by maoist as political war. if it was equality then why one man is treated as god even in maoist??????that is parchanda. you talk they believe in democracy there is big difference in idealogy between communist and democractic idealogy. So if they are not communist then they should say so .If they truely believe in maoist then i don't see how that is going to work out. Social reforms are needed in nepal , education , food ..but this is no way to achieve that. i am not idiot and i know true colors maoist .there opportunist nature.their expolitation of issues. i see new nepal as true democratic state not communist.i do not have old glasses on.but looks definately that you have been brainwashed by maoist good speaches and literature.they are indeed nice but in book only!

yes people have so my doubts as well as hope from Moaist in my point of view if we give them one chance 5 years they are never going to leave .Doesn't matter how they perform. they will be there. So giving chance is betting very high when ur chances of winning is less than winning 340 million dollars lottery. It took 21 people to remove gyane i don't know how many people would need to take them out 2100 or 21000???

Dear all If Mr. Prachanda and his red brigades, would have come in power by ballets, then things would be have totally different Nepalese People as well as international communities would have welcomed him recognized his Government. His ideology, is not appropriate for 21 Century, where world believe freedom, free market economy, and constructive Democracy, Nepal should not exceptional, only in democracy everybody can live with harmoniously, for example, look at European Countries, Indian, USA, even though people are poor at least they breath peacefully, don't believe that in communism everybody is equal and they are entitle to get equal share from the country, that is wrong, in china of remote village, people are dying due to mall nourish, they can't buy meat, meat is very much expensive, they will eat meat only one time that is their New Year. I don't see any reason of replacing prachanda as our PM; these thugs don't know how to build the country, except destroying nation, killing innocent ordinary civilians, lootings all the banks, now he is impersonate of Kall Marx, this theory always worked where politically and economically weak they forced make to believe it, why communism did not existed in UK there Angel and Marx were living, how come it did work in Russia, because they got appropriate place and people, if that system was good how come Present Russia facing difficult situation and paying price. Don't believe in looting, and feeding that is not democracy. I pray for Democracy and Socialism not for Prachanda his communism.

maoists have fear on their side.many people in the rally were there coz they fear the maoists , not coz they support their ideals. how can a party which has fear and voilence as a strategy be democratic..? maoists should not be allowed to join the government, but they have a right to hold mass rally as nepal is a democracy.

Yes, ImI, you are damn right, even that ullu Prachanda will lose the election if all his caders are allowed to vote with their free mind free from Maoist's bondage. But if Prachanda comes in power, first thing he will do is bring Karshma KC from USA to Nepal, and he will try to do rasleela with her, of course using FEAR as a tool. Not his penis.

Dear All, Good Luck, We don't need Maoist in Nepal In Democratic system there are diffirent parties, and system is governed by the people. The peole have the power to elect someone as the member of Parliament and send as their represent, peole have the right to remove the elect member if he or she does not work according people will from office if people wish. The decission make by the majority of puulation. People have more freedom. In Communist system is the opposite. The people have no power to elect their representative or governor. The government is appointed by high rank Military Polit body. People can't remove any governor from the his office. The goverment have more freedom than people. Entirely different from democracy and Prachanda Path, authoritiean and totalian.

Contd..... Yeah, don't think that Maoists will be able to keep on exorting Nepalese people... One day the people will react vehemently against Maoists atrocities too... !! When that happens, whoever Maoists cadre appear at your dorstep asking for donation will face death !! If too much, it will be bitter!!!

Jana Andolan II was driven by, amongst other things, the need for accountability. It could turn out that Gyanendra's biggest mistake may not have been so much as dismissing the elected government as not allowing himself to be held accountable to anyone. If Prachanda and friends want to go down the same path, they only have to look back at the King to understand the consequences of arrogant power.

I have observed something strange. Apart from a few, most commentators from mainstream media are not writing at all about this very significant event of Maoist showdown in the capitol. There is a strange self-imposed silence. What could be the reason ? There is no denying that the showdown was astounding. Based on that on one hand and presumed flexibility or pragmatism or opportunism, depending on how you look, of mainstream media, on the other hand, it more looks like their inability to ARTICULATE their shock/fear/anticipation at this point of time rather than Maophobia or something is behind this silence. If this theory is right, we are slowly going to see the media starting to respect the Maoists like they have been doing to other powers. We shall see. That said, here is a vocal Maophobic op/ed from TKP, a rare stuff regarding the silence of the most.
