BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Gunmen kidnapped an American, a Nepali and two Arabs from their office in western Baghdad on Monday, police said. "They stormed the villa with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades," said a police source. "They had no chance." The source said one man had been killed in the attack. He was thought to one of the kidnappers shot by a security guard at the Saudi Arabian company where the foreigners worked. The nationality of the Arabs snatched from the villa in Baghdad's affluent Mansour district was unclear. Militants and criminals have kidnapped scores of foreigners, some of whom have been killed.

What a relief. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nepali abducted in Iraq is safe: Officials (Hostage crisis update) Foreign Ministry officials have said that Yunus Kabari, a Nepalese youth from Devpur VDC-5 in the southeastern district of Dhanusha, who was taken hostage by an insurgent group in Iraq four days ago, is safe and is in contact with the company he was working for. The reaction from the foreign ministry officials has come following media reports that the Iraqi insurgents yesterday released Kabari. Talking to Nepalnews, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, Durga Bhattarai said, ?For the time being we can only say that Kabari is at a safe place and is in contact with the company he was working for. Hopefully he will be released. But we have yet to confirm about his release.? However, reports said that the insurgents released Kabadi yesterday without any precondition. State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat yesterday left for the United Arab Emirates to negotiate the safe release of Kabari. Kabari was working in Saudi Arabia as a security guard with a company and had recently moved to Iraq where he was abducted by an Iraqi insurgent group. nepalnews.com amt Nov 05 04

A good news for a country that is accustomed to bad news all the time. Thank Goodness. I hope the ministry will ask Mr. Kabari if there are other Nepalese residing inside Iraq or not, and if yes (most probably) devise a plan to get them out.

good to hear that he is freed no matter we all know the reason behind. he is a nepali and we all respect him for being a nepali. Good job by all the parties concerning behind this crisis. These piece of sentences written by Karmapa garbbed my attention though ; Posted on 11-04-04 8:00 PM Reply | Notify Admin SENSE, it is not 'allah' and their religion kidnapping foreigners in Iraq. Before you ask where is their brains, you ask yourself where is my brain? Who'se keeping hostages at gunpoint? You don't know? Geeeeee dude. Certainly not Allah and their religion who are kidnapping and beheading...like you said. I thought everybody knew that. Don't tell me you didn't know that? Geeee dude, where do u live anyway??? Inside an ash tray, is it? Oh, to think that someone named SENSE would have at least that much SENSE. Sorry I didnt understand what u mean, could u clearify ur points so that this wont get into a discussion of personal egoism.

it certainly is reassuring to know the nepali government is capable of doing some good things for its people and it is tremendously good news that he has been released. it's just a shame it took the death of 12 innocent nepalis and riots in kathmandu in order for the government to act.

or may be those Riots worked this time. Its easy to negotiate when you tell them. Look, last time you guys killed nepalese, so many muslims were hurt, mosques burned, and you don't want that.
