Indefinite curfew in Lamjung district headquarters

Lamjung district administration office has imposed indefinite curfew in the district headquarters Besishahar from Thursday noon after violent clashes between a group of local youths and the Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) over the tender of scrap materials of Mid-Marsyangdi hydropower project.

The curfew order came after tension escalated when YCL cadres beat up the
local youths, who had thrashed a local Maoist leader yesterday and barred him from filing the bid, reports said.

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) had opened the tender of the scrap materials worth 10.5 million rupees.

Security has been beefed up in the town amid fears of fresh clashes between the two groups. nepalnews.com mk Aug 07 08

madog bro,

i dunno how much u know about the power of water resources in Nepal but to me it is a water gold for us. just like middle east have black (oil) gold we have water gold. but thanks to stupid assholes we are importing electricity - ironical.

as for ur business idea, take example of Mahabir Dai who left US and overcame all obstacles to establish network in one of the remotest village of Nepal. I am not saying u have to leave US but still can do something like us-me and my friends.

i am not into business but into saving natural resources of Nepal. we just got a grant of 7 lakhs to study the habitat of lesser adjutant stork in KTWR.

maddog bro,

what we need is to start form grassroot level and what u writing is comparing US to Nepal which is laughable at this moment. ktm has few malls like the one in bhatbhateni run by 4 laures and it is running well.

what u can do is team up with people like Mahabir dai and work with him. start from a small thing and grow big over time unless u are looking to make quick cash. riots, bandhs are signs of a nation whose general populace is not happy. it will never stop until u and me vote for a sensible person to run the country plus the system has be rinsed free of corruption. it is ordinary people like u and me who needs to do that.

Bro Investors are not charity They are modern developers and High net project handlers. Starting from roots is a great Idea but these investors are all profit savy. For example they will open a five star resort which will cater to the tourism but will hire local to run the establishment, they will start a hydro power project but will open employment to thousands of job less youths . How is that im comparing USA with Nepal when Asian countries all over has High Rise buildings, free education up to Highschool and much more advanced system??? Bro look at singapore, malaysia..........In the 60's and 70's Nepal was ranked higher than these countries , 35-40 yrs later Now look at us we are ranked 13th in the poor countries/ and they are considered developed countries../////////Openning Many modern business is good for employment, and with all this many new developement requires many workers to maintain and run the establishment and there is nothing as quick cash........BUT I KNOW INVESTORS WHO CAN DROP QUICK CASH ...if you know what I mean....I havent even explored the possibilities with them because any good busines man know the right time.....People arent happy and that is not our fault, its the politicians and I hate politics. Curroption can never be washed ....it can be tamed. Ordinary people can do a lot and can also be used to kidnap, extort, loot, kill, destroy. To solve that we as Nepalese need to unite and work together. AGAIN...myself alone will not make a difference and I dont want to be a SAHID yet. You say riots bandhas anf jaams are by unhappy people or POLITICIANS..think about it...A normal business store wishes more open days than closed days, a normal working man needs to work , kids need to study , taxi drivers , porters, busdrivers, mooviehalls, restaurants all have a chain effect by this so called bandhas...........except the jobless mob, unruly college students who rather have fun than attend classes.  BRO.....think.....Its more complicated than you put...Oh you must know how politicians buy student union leaders to riot.........

don't u think we have resorts that cater to tourism? do u know Tiger Top in Chitwan, located well inside the park (which is illegal) owned by an american. it charge almost 300 dollars per night to foreigners and 80 to nepalese. it is a 4 star hotel and possess everything one looks for in the wilderness. and all the staffs are local youths. and this has been going on for 3 decades. and i don't see any change in the livelihoods of the locals. this is due to money leakage to foreign countires - another issue of developing countries.

and u plan to take or try to convince some US investors to Nepal and pour money that will boost nepal's economy-hmmm!!. i dunno much about singapore's history but for nepal, we have to go from bottom. if every businessman of nepal would give in to riots then there would be no ason. why don't u do some study on singapore's development in the last few decades and let us know. i would have done it but kinda stuck with a proposal at the moment.

change is necessary but it is gradual and takes time. i have been reading ur postings and to be honest with u - if u wait for complete satbility, then u would be waiting for a long long time. cause some instability is the sign of a developing nation.

Unicorn Bro.........You and I have the same passion that is to develope our country and the welfare of the nation our mother land Nepal. Bro you and I can have discussions on the pros and cons of business and what is and isnt right in Nepal for hours and days. I really dont care about Tiger tops but you are telling me that life for people who work there hasnt improved at all compared to thousands of jobless who are joinig, the maoists, MJRF militia, leaving nepal to arabian war torn countries ???? thats one resort.....name me some more???? Bro I you are implying that I should not try bringing mordern stuff to Nepal and start from the poor than I guess we have a complete different path. You have a very charity like ....free food, medical, ground roots etc kinda approach which I excellent if thats what you like.....FOR me i believe the theory that to give a hungry man a fish to eat will cure his hunger for a day...........I I want to teach him how to fish for him self so he would never be hungry again. Bro I have worked very hard in USA and for 11 yrs. I have achieved all by myself.......................wanna know one truth.....I came to US with $90.00 of my own money in my pocket that my mom gave me and I was 19 yrs old. I have washed dishes, waitered, unload and load heavy goods from turcks, in the same time I paid for my own college....working 7 days a week...some times 24 hours a day. Bro I have worked veryhard to be where I am............Now I am business owner and own my  Inccorporation with 4 branches in two states. Nothing came easy but oppertunity was always there for me  ...THATS WHAT NEPAL LACKS OPPERTUNITY AND I WANT TO PROVIDE THAT....I DONT WANT TO BRING SYMPATHY.....BUT THE DESIRE TO WORK HARD AND MAKE IT...................and bro you seem to be a very educated person......you shouldnt say the instability is a sign of a developing nation. It is a sign of a collasping economy with unsatisfied politicians who lead the mob of terror. Lastly bro we both agree or disagree it makes no difference because bro....Nepal is in Dire needs.......and those back home are equally responsible for saving our country first hand. Look bro my mission is not to provide a quick fix by having companies donate food and materials to the poor in a sympethetic manner, AND FOR THATthere are thousands of non profit organizations. My aim is to bring oppertunity and employment in Nepal which I believe to be the root of the problem. Im not tying to make everyone rich here but in a capitalistic world....My goal is to give the oppertunity to everyone to make it on their own if they choose.

what maddogg is talking about is a rapid development, a rapture of foreign wealth if and only if all gets settled in NEPAL. no riots, students- who are supposed to be studying- inside the classes, roads running normally, buses, tempos, shops, thelas, paketmaars... all operating in their full capacity...

that is when you can really make some foreigners buy into your ideas of investing in NEPAL.

I understand unicorn's POV, but what you two are talking is totally different...unicorn's idea will take forever, but it will be slow steady, and come from within the territory...whereas, Maddogg is talking about jumpstarting the economy right away, not worrying about where the money is coming from...

Maddogg, I like your spirits...keep it up...we should partner up some time after a decade or so, as see what we come up with.

It's a long shot, but an ANA fund like the BRK-A & BRK-B wouldn't be a bad idea...what say you?

sounds good  Kaila baje. You absoultely hit the nail on where my motives are from and what I want to do . Together we might be stronger...I will keep you posted. And who knows one day we will meet as true pioneers in the making of Nepal.  next year I am going to start an Organization to lay out a plan with some dedicated friends of mine who are investors and in acouple of years of planning, I will   take business in Nepal, I prefer to go when the situation is much calmer. butI am not waiting for everything to be absoutely calm but some stability is promising for Investors.

MadDoGG and Unicornis bros you guys are in opposite end of the same stick racing to get to the center to create the foundation..... Unicornis bro is right in a sense that if we wait for the right time (at least the ways things are going right now) it will take forever and we have lot to loose by waiting because these corrupt bastards will sell anything and everything for chair and money..... MadDoGG bro what Unicornis bro is trying to say is you are in the city of the corrupts and you want to make a change where you don't have foundation.... If you really want to why not start by investing in villages (grass root level).... Take for example how about investing in commercial farming.... There are many western districts in Nepal where you can grow many types of vegetables and food staples like wheat, barley, corn, millet among other things..... Take for example Accham district used to produce enough wheat for its village and still have enough to sell to other district..... But due to lack of irrigation facility and awareness among people about health benefits, they stoped growing wheat and barley and started buying food from government..... Read this bro you will understand what I mean.... http://www.nepalitimes.com.np/issue/2008/05/09/Nepalipan/14780
So why not help them create an irrigation facility and charge them for the service.... We could also help them market the produce to food deficit district and neighboring districts so they can afford to pay for the facility we provide.... Trust me bro Indians are taking advantage of the fact that we don't have this basic knowledge and are also making money from us.... Do you know most product produced in Nepal are sold to Indian traders first and then they turn back around and sell those products right back to another district for higher price.... I also had a article about that but some how I misplaced it.... So tell me how are they making money.... Another thing that anyone can do is why not give an entrepreneurial ideas to our Nepali brothers which is what they lack and we can change things around for them.... Take for example Mr. Pun... He has started from building elementary school and some novel ideas to make money for the village... He decided to make the village self sufficient..... He now made fishing pond to market fish in the village, duck for meat, himalayan yak and chaure cow for meat and milk, sewing for making clothes from sheep farming, basic telehealth service which is due to wireless connection.... He even cross bread yak and cow to produce more milk per breed.... You can find this in his web, you will find it very interesting how simple his ideas are and are beneficial to our people..... http://www.himanchal.org/  ..... if you go through this you will understand..... This was what Unicornis was mentioning and trust me this man is very inspiring and made me believe that it is possible.....

MadDoGG bro I can also understanding your situation as well.... Its hard to invest in under developing country because of their is always possibility of failure to get profits or loss of all your assets.... From business perspective its not a smart decision.... But you also have to understand you are comparing a society which already has its foundation vs not.... For example you want a capitalist economy but in capitalist economy you already have security, local and state market created by the government or local people initiatives, you have educated people who are aware of what to produce and who to produce it for, you have fair competition, you have a management groups and rules and regulations and too many other things to list here.... In that situation all you do is think of ideas, find a niche to limit or avoid competition and acquire starting capital to get started... But for our country Nepal we first need that foundation and find the people who are willing to invest in such things and the longer we avoid these basic foundation then we are also prolonging our ability to invest in our beloved country.... We live in America which is why we know these things but our people lack such knowledge.... Our people don't even understand the simple rule of economy and money.... They think that just hiding the money and keeping it under the bed or a bank will get them more money and it will grow.... What they don't understand is the strength of a single Ruppies or any currency is based on the fact how much you circulate that money and products produced from investing that money..... who is going to teach them that and provide these thing for them....  Someone has to invest on that first before anyone can make money in Nepal..... Also you are looking for short term return and not long term....

Now you both have the best interest in heart for our country but one wants to start from top to bottom and other from bottom to top..... Who is right who is wrong is not for be to judge but I just wanted to share my opinion....

after reading the blogs, it is clear that MadDoGG is thousands of miles away from Nepal and equally distant from reality. So, u plan to invest or encourage investment (after politcal stability, peace and common sense prevail)on 50 storey high rises with what with what? come again..... earthquake proof features and what elese sixflag parks.... what? and where in Nepal? hahahahahahahahahahahaha and u call that quick fix (that mr. funny man kalia agrees) for Nepal slagging economic woes? one word for your plans- ludacis!!!! ur plans can be termed visionary but not very practical. reading ur blogs on development u sound more like an futuristic artist like Riddley Scott or George Lucas than a sound businessman or a good investorson a positive side i agree with ur opinion on investment in hydropower yes. there is big scope and guess what there is already significant interest by foreign investors (u really don’t know what is going on here Mr. Bostonian, do you?) , mostly indian, chinese and europeans (latter for smaller projects). so hurry up mr. hard working business man and u can tell ur contacts too because by the time u plan and decide to jump in the feast, others might have taken the sweet part of the pie. i again agree with ur ethics of hard work, need for investment and ur story of hungry men-free fish-fishing. but u are mistaken if u think all INGOs and NGOs do is hand out free food and freebies. They might not be investing in the strictest sense but they are helping many nepalis by giving direct hand out for short term. For the long run, NGOs and INGOs do open avenues for sustainable development by utilizing local resources to address local needs. They do provide employment and resources for many and development for the community.  Again, Nepal needs investment and investment plans but childish plans (high rises, parks, and malls) proposed by MadDoGG are not viable in the near future.
Hydropower is the claim to fame for Nepal as far as economic stability and growth is concerned. Private sector can contribute in Banking-Insurance, Roads, Real Estate investment as per the need of Nepalis in Nepal and not in accordance to wishful thinking of an estranged-emotional-expatriate, ropeways and cable cars, tourism-hotel-restaurant etc. Any takers
??? further more, I believe the private sector can coordinate with NGOs and INGOs to investment on sustainable development projects aimed at targeted market that cater to the concerned market’s needs eg, solar power technology, bio fuels, small scaled mining projects, etc.

to all,

i am talking reality.

'live wire' clearly understood my point and Nepal_Hero bro to great extent. u have to have a sound knowledge of a nation's geology, environment etc before u invest or plan for development. i have written this 100 times in sajha, we cannot build high buildings, insert tunnels etc in our young mountains that are still evolving. geologists predict nepal will jolted with some strong earthquakes in the near future.

what we can do is build what we have. we have highways that gets destroyed every rainy season - why? cause they use cheap materials. we hear collapsing of buildings often. this is a chain reaction of the actions of weak govts.

to dream is great but to dream making nepal US in near years is ...... again i stress on working from grassroot level.

lets go back to chitwan local youths. i met a young tharu kid recently in a hotel. he was in his teens. as usual i interacted with him asking all sorts of questions including his income, school etc. there was pain in his eyes when he said how much he longs for school but he has to work full time in the hotel to support his family. how about money? they are paid minimum wages and the profits flies to either to ktm or outside country. in chitwan, most resorts are owned by foreigners who hardly visits. managerial jobs goes to graduates from valley and the locals holds menial jobs.

this is just one example.

Live wire bro.....Forgive if Im not the type of patriot you assume one to be. You are the type of person who is concerned about a situation and has a lot of ideas and they are great ideas bro. I think you are again in a different aspect of approaching in the developement of Nepal. WE need both spectrums of approach bro. One is your type.....work with NGOs and INGOs, Charity Funds, world bank, Redcross to develope private sectors like you said starting from the bottom with Nepals own resources, A VERY NOBLE APPROACH. Mine and Kaila Baje's approach Is a jump start economy boom targeted for the rich and priviledged and the tourism and have TONS OF MONEY to later invest and donate down to YOUR APPROACH.....we could be a team. We earn from the rich and donate to your approach together....IF YOU TRUST US.....Your approach runs on donations and charity, Ours  attract   large scale International investors  that will magnet money which you call ludacis!!!!  Most cities in Nepal are very modern, the teens and the younger generation are way ahead than you think. Tourism is a big source and making their lives more comfortable, fun and one they will never forget is not at all BAD.......Using that Income to develope Nepal is our goal. Encourage local tourism and making it affordable will boost local business. Bro We need to work as a team and for both our causes we Need MONEY......A LOT OF MONEY.......and for that we have both of our approaches together one(US) jumpstart economy AND MAKE A TON OF IT  and another(YOU) figure out where money is needed the most so Nepal and we work togetherto solve it and that way Nepal will develope faster........am I making more sense to you now bro???....lastly bro we need both approaches not jus yours or mine....BOTH

Making Nepal like USA is not our goal................how about Singapore???, Malaysia??? Thailand?? To take our country on a fast track to atleast as a FAST developing Asian country. AND working together in Both aspect will help....One attracting a lot of Foreign Money( MONEY NEPAL DOESNT HAVE) and using the money to boost the private sector like what unicornis bro, live wire and hero bro talks about. Cant we all work together.........?????

maddog,

yes, we can do that. we all can work together. after i graduate, i have a plan to work for hydropower in one village and go from there. i also know that i have to face govt. hurdles such as permission etc. remember we are not corrupt free.

like i requested before, it would be appreciated if u could give the exact data on the development of singapore, malaysia etc.

SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE - A FAMOUS AND VERY TRUE PROVERB.
