Killing people for employment/money never makes us proud. Finally the right decision.
KATHMANDU: Indian and British armies may no longer be able to employ Gurkhas, known for their valour, following a Nepalese governmentdecision to eventually stop their recruitment in foreign countries.
Nepal's government has directed Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and other concerned ministries to implement the recommendations of a report that seeks to ultimately halt Gurkha recruitments in foreign armies.
The Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) have sent separate letters to various ministries on March 9 directing them to initiate procedures for implementing recommendations of the report, Nepal's Foreign Policy in Changed Context: 2012, saying it was endorsed by a House panel.
The report approved by the Parliamentary Committee on International Relations and Human Rights on December 26, 2011, was later presented in the Legislature Parliament.
The report has drawn sharp criticism from Ex-Gurkha organisations which have warned to launch protests if Gurkha Recruitment Centres are shut down in Nepal, the Republica reported.
Nepalese Gurkhas are mainly serving in Indian Army and British Army.
The parliamentary report argues that although the Gurkha recruitment gave the Nepali youths limited employment opportunity, serving with foreign military had not allowed the country to hold its head high

There's no bravery or valor in dying for another country, and a lot to do with stupidity.

Sounds like you are jealous.
If Nepal government wants to impose upon the freedom of its citizens on where they work, they should be able to provide ample and lucrative jobs. If they can't provide jobs, they should just shut the F up.
Isn't this called in Nepali: "khutta tanney baani: aafuley pani garnu nasakney, aruley gareko pani dekhi na-sahaney."

Your first sentence makes sense, but look at the people behind it. Do they respect what you say? Where the hell these people suppose to work now? Why on earth they don't care about more pertinent problems such as women being sold to brothels in India and Arabs, and our men dying in Arab? Perhaps they want Nepalese rather work as maids/watchmen/laborers than as soldiers because the first ones earn more respect for our nation.
Go on making the RIGHT decisions depriving people of their RIGHTs to work/live.

Good point Dallas7! Please read again what I wrote; I would not want them to be sold. Governments should protect them from being sold. Your logic is flawed because the issue you brought cannot be compared. Who is arguing that government should allow its citizens to work in brothels or other criminal gangs or drug trade or whatever because they can't provide replacement jobs for them. Don't you think we should doubt the REAL intention of the maoists who recruits the minors and has its own paramilitary goons talks so highly? They are really GOOD in all these propaganda and they have been succeeding in it be it the issues with religions, castes, ethnicities, and so on.

What is there to be jealous about? Not being able to go and fight for other countries' cause for little money? When you became soldier for other countries and represent Nepal, than it harms every Nepali. For example; If you go and kill some iraqi , and I have iraqi friends (or have to deal with iraqi community) here in US, it is going to hurt my relationship because of your stupidity. Paisa kamaunay tarikaa dherai cha, kurai nabhujhi banduk bokayra arulai maardai hindnu galat maatrai hoina, paap pani ho.

Be hell with these mofos politicians.

Right Decision but the government should ve thought some other options too .The british BoG is going to halt its recruitment in 5-10 ysr time anyway but the indian GR is where we ll be losing a lot of remittance.
I hope the government initiates something for those aspirants of foreign employment who should be a bigger concern than just the mercenary forces.Thats a force of over million and they should be taken into account.
But i m also happy that the reputation of us nepalese as brainless mercenaries is going to end at last.

"Take down the walls, expand the roads, they are too narrow."
Makes sense; but they were approved by the government. Who will compensate those who end up losing their land and sometimes their home?
"Who cares."
"Stop the Gorkhas recruitment"
Sounds logical; but what would happen to those who were counting on this as the sole source of their income, their future?
"Who cares."

well let me remind the readers what it is reported in the nepalnews regarding this issue.
Govt directs MoFA to end Gurkha recruitment
The almost two centuries-old unique tradition of Nepali citizens serving in foreign armies as the “brave” Gurkha soldiers (also called Gorkha soldiers) and laying down their lives in numerous wars may soon come to an end if the current Maoist-led government has its way. - Nepalnews, 03/19/2012
it is just an speculation that the current Maoist-led government wants to end the gurkha employment.
so what happens if the current Maoist-led government really stop the nepalese from being recruited with the foreign british and indian armed forces?
here's the short scenario.
well i can see chaos from happening. Baburam Bhattarai and His cabinet ministers are digging their graves. it is to be noted that majority of the combatants who made up
the Maoist troops are the same people who seek employment with the british and indian as the gurkhas or which other nepalese said foreign mercenary.
first create the job opportunities in our country then Gurkha Recruiting will stop automatically. even with college, universities degrees, there's aren't any jobs for nepalese. seriously how many nepalese students in USA will return home or even dare to return home after graduating. maybe you call the gurkhas mercenry but aren't you nepalese who are here in USA mercenaries as well. you may be working as mercenary gas station worker or mercenary dish water. others may be working as mercenary servers. the fact is when one works for other countires, you are all mercenaries. the only difference is the title. they are soldiers, while nepalese in USA works in different field.
If you want to be proud of a sovereign country, do not rely on the AID from foreign country. but nepali ministers are happily accepting money donated by foreign nations.
is that make us nepalis proud accepting money as beggars. so again those ministers who made such decision to stop the gurkha recruitment should look into their own deeds and actions.
finally all national policy making and decision making solely lies in 3 political parties of nepal which does not represent the majority of nepalese and not certainly adivasi janajatis of nepal and in this case not certainly the gurkhas community.
therefore if the plan of stopping gurkha recruitment into british and india is successful, i fear there would be reparation by those people who have been following the gurkha tradition for last 150+ years. again if you want to stop this tradition of nepalese joining the foreign army, then make sure the decision makers have alternative jobs for them.
