How about 17", 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 Gig Memory, 250GB HD? It is around 3000, I guess, but if you get refurbished, it will be around 2000. However, I am not a big fan of Mac. It's all glamor and glitch dude, but when it comes to the hardware, it sucks big time (it usually starts with the power chord, which is about $85 and the big fiasco is hard drive). So, I'd suggest you if you get a Mac, make sure you have those "Apple Care Plan" and "extended plan" all the time and make sure you register your product according to the apple care plan. It's OS, whether it's tiger or leopard, is good. Burned my hands one too many times in last 2 yrs.

people are getting HP,4 GB ram(since u want to used it for audio/visual) with 250 GB hard drive for less than 1000 bucks, so think twice if u really want to go with Mac, all it matters is memory.

Techie, but u wont be cool to carry that old "box looking" HP. Yes, Apple also charge for that X-factor.

Mav, our dude is trying to use it for recording and film editin, i dont think he'll be carrying it on a ramp, trying to patao some chick with a laptop, even HP has pretty descent looks man. Oh yeah, slowersea, even i used to have recording studio back home, so u might want to buy USB audio interface, m-audio or e-audio, 4X4 or 2X2, i'm thinking of buying tascam 16 x16, its just $399 and send it home.

I just bought a MackBook Pro last month. It is my first time using a Mac or even a unix based system. The transition was smooth. I am starting to love it. I usually use it for enterprise software development using Java J2EE. Its a lil too expensive, but its worth it considering the glamour and the style.

Techie, To feel cool, u always dont have show off to the chicks, u know. What you feel is what that's matters most. And Apple is the leader in consumer satisfaction. Reps and Macofanatics have always said that they want to be the Mercedes or BMW of the computers. So it is upto the consumer's choice if they wanna buy a BMW or Toyota. Like Toyota, both HP and dell are awesome, but certain "things" are missing. Probably just a perception but that's how market works. Rite?

Mav, I dint really mean that chick thing, there's no doubt MAC has the best computer standard hardware ,even Bill Gate's said that but I 'm just trying to help slowresa the best for his film editing n recording with less expense. May be its not just how it looks outside matter, but also how it works inside. For editing n recording, it needs lots of memory, buying that for mac is going to cost a lot.

I personally wouldn't buy mac. its damn expensive compare to other laptops, plus you can't have everything in mac. there are still too many software's which are not compatible with mac. i don't agree that mac is BMW or Mercedes of computers . If you wanna spent shit load of money on all kind of protection plan then yes mac is good other wise I would go for high end Sony laptop. and again it really depends on what u need. if you are using it for photography or multimedia, mac is consider to be better else for everything pc is the best.

I would personally recommend u to go for a mac. I got a macbook recently and its amazing. I got it cheaper and i would suggest u to look for good deals.
Go to apple.com and search refurbished mac...You will find it cheaper and the difference between the new mac and refurbished mac is just the cartoon they use for shipping.
