गोपालराज मैनाली तिक्ष्ण बुद्धि भएका तर त्यसलाई प्रदर्शन गर्ने मौका कमै पाएका (कम्तिमा ९० को दशक सम्म, माने मलाई अन्तिम जानकारी हुँदासम्म) कलाकार हुन् । एकसमय मद्यवेसनबाट आफ्नो सम्पूर्ण करिअर र पारिवारिक जीवन नष्ट बनाएका उनले कसरी त्यो त्रासदीबाट उठे र आफुलाई पुनर्स्थापित गरे, त्यो हेर्न भने म वञ्चित रहें ।

 

उनको विलक्षण बुद्धिको अनुभव गर्ने एउटा अवसर पाएको थिएँ मैले एउटा सभाको संकटको क्षणमा ।

 

पञ्चायतकालको एक समय काठमाडौंको “काभ्रेली सम्पर्क समाज” (वामपन्थीहरुको प्रभुत्व भएको एउटा सामुदायिक संगठन) ले एउटा सभाको आयोजना गरेका थियो डिल्लीबजारको सांस्कृतिक केन्द्रमा । काभ्रेका सेलिब्रेटीहरु गोपालराज मैनाली, हरिवंश आचार्य, किरण खरेल आदि अतिथीहरु थिए र प्रमुख अतिथी चाही काभ्रेबाट निर्वाचित रा.प.स. र परराष्ट्रमन्त्री शैलेन्द्र कुमार उपाध्याय ।

 

सभासञ्चालक चाही म आफै थिएँ ।

 

शैलेन्द्र कुमार उपाध्यायद्वारा चुनावमा हराईएका एकजना युवानेता पनि वक्ता थिए । उनले त उधुमै मच्चाए बा, मन्त्रीलाई अत्यन्त आक्रामक गालीपुराण सुनाएर । हामी उनीप्रति सहानुभूतिशिल भएपनि (पञ्चायतविरोधी जो थियौं) त्यो भाषण अशोभनिय दर्जाको थियो र वातावरण एकदम तनावग्रस्त हुन पगेको थियो ।

 

हामीले, मैले भन्नुपर्‍यो, अलिक पछि पालोमा राखेको गोपालराज मैनालीलाई बोल्न निम्ता गरें, एउटा ताजा वातावरण बन्ला भन्ने पनि आसामा ।

 

र भयो पनि त्यसै ।

 

मैनाली पनि क्षुब्द नै रहेछन् । तर उनले एउटा यस्तो भाषण दिए जसले चमत्कारै गर्‍यो (आयोजक हामी सबैले आपसमा त्यसलाई “चमत्कारै” भनेम) । वातावरणको बोझिलोपना पनि गायव, गालीवाद पनि गायव र एउटा बुद्धिजीवीजन्य वातावरणको पुनर्स्थापना पनि ।

 

उनको भाषणमा शब्दहरु केही पनि थिएनन् । केही absurd शब्दहरु राखेर बुरुक बुरुक उफ्रेर भाषण ठोके मैनालीले । त्यो भाषण म जिन्दगीभर बिर्सन सक्दिन ।

 

मैनालीज्युलाई मेरो गहिरो श्रद्धाञ्जली !

rikshaw le pani timilai nai hanne, sade le pani timilai nai lakhetne....yada yada yada...isnt this the same comedian? and isnt he the original 'nakkale' to baundhara bhusal's nakkali? man he was funny.

It is indeed very saddening to hear about the passing away of  Gopal Raj Mainali. Nepal has lost a very special person; it is an irreplaceable loss to the Nepali Comedy. A great figure of Nepali Comedy is no more, but he lives on through his works and laughing memories that he has left behind.  He will always be alive among us as "Chankhe," "Nakkale," "or as the guy from go-go washing powder commercial. May Pashupatinath give him eternal rest and may his soul rest in perfect peace. My thoughts are with the bereaved family.
