Guys, I'm not permanent resident but have H1 approval. I had to fill I-9 for my job and it asks about the Alien# or Admission#. I am not sure what that suppose to mean and where can I find that number (visa, H1 approval notice, or my opt card)? Thanks

Do you have a receipt notice (I-797) of your H1B filing? Towards the top-right portion of the notice you should have a number like A#097 985 358. This is the Alien number that USCIS assigns and remains a part of your life in the US. I think USCIS always puts this number in any correspondence you get from them (e.g. approval notice, RFE etc.)

PJRules, I have never seen a work H1 EAD card. At least such number (If not Alien number something must be there to track you by the USCIS) should be in the document that you get as authorization to work.

Harris, I checked with my lawyers and they said that unless and until you are a permanent resident, you wont have the Alien #, so I was told to put Not Applicable in that section. And I guess they will be using the receipt no. to keep track on me. Anyways, thanks for all your concerns.
