BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Gunmen kidnapped an American, a Nepali and two Arabs from their office in western Baghdad on Monday, police said.

"They stormed the villa with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades," said a police source. "They had no chance."

The source said one man had been killed in the attack. He was thought to one of the kidnappers shot by a security guard at the Saudi Arabian company where the foreigners worked.

The nationality of the Arabs snatched from the villa in Baghdad's affluent Mansour district was unclear.

Militants and criminals have kidnapped scores of foreigners, some of whom have been killed.

Bhanja, nowhere did I read that "our country man is released", if it is true it is a good news.
Now, will the government, humane organizations and poeple pressurize to ask for his release, before it is too late and for God's sake do something before not after it is all over. The muslim community in Nepal have to come forward and send a request to their muslim bretherns in Iraq to avoid harming Nepalese, for we are mere servants, serving those who pays. If inspite of this security, they could seize them out, indeed Iraq is very unsafe, but it is war like situation and in wars casulties happen, and it is sad this time again we have a brother captured, refreshing our horrifying memmories of the 12 brothers, who have slowly been fading from our memories, except for the internet links.

Identity of Nepali hostage established

The Nepali citizen, taken hostage along with five other people in Baghdad by a group of Iraqi insurgents on Monday, has been confirmed as Yunus Kabadi, a resident of southern district of Dhanusha, the Foreign Ministry said.

Spokesman of the ministry, Durga P Bhattarai said Wednesday afternoon that Kabadi, a resident of Rupaida of Devpur VDC-5 in Dhanusha, was working as a security guard with the Saudi Arabia Trading and Contracting Company for the last five years. He had been sent to Iraq sometime back, he said.

Bhattarai said the government had initiated 'diplomatic efforts' to ensure
the safe release of Kabadi. The government has already appealed to the international community, International Committee of Red Cross and has also urged the Indian embassy in Baghdad to help in the release of the Nepali hostage.

Yunus Kabari, the Nepali national among six people taken hostage in Baghdad on Monday, may be a resident of eastern terai district of Siraha, officials said.

Kabari, which sounds like a Muslim name, was working as a coffee boy at the Baghdad office of Saudi Arabian Trading and Contracting Company in Iraq. Charge d' affaires at the Royal Nepalese embassy in Saudi Arabia, Lok Bahadur Thapa, said he visited the head office of the company at Riyadh Monday and requested them to provide more details about their Nepali staff.

Kabari was abducted at gun point by an unknown group of assailants in the Mansour district of Baghdad Monday afternoon. The whereabouts of the group remains unknown as yet. "We haven't heard anything from the group as yet and we don't know their intentions," reports quoted Shyamanand Suman, Royal Nepalese ambassador in Doha, Qatar, as saying.

Suman had played an active role in trying to establish contact with Al Ansar Al Sunna-the Islamic extremist group-that abducted 12 innocent Nepalis in August this year and later slaughtered them without making any demands. Nepali authorities were subject to popular anger and criticism for failing to establish contacts with the insurgent group.

This time around, top foreign ministry officials have said they will leave no stone unturned to locate and ensure safe release of the Nepali citizen. Nepal government has appealed the international community and requested the Indian embassy in Baghdad to help in this matter.

Nepal doesn't have diplomatic representation in Iraq and has prohibited Nepalis to go and work in the war-ravaged country. But thousands of Nepalis are said to be working within Iraq, mainly as construction workers, security guards and domestic helps, risking their lives. nepalnews.com by Nov 03 04

Bhanja, Cool Keta and Dada Giri's anti-Muslim diatribe is disturbing.
If the same were said about a Hindu God or Lord Buddha, there'd
be a flame war on this thread.

FYI, this time the Nepali hostage is believed to be a Muslim Nepali.
If you bigots thought your Nepali brothers and sisters were only
Hindus or Buddhists, it's high time you all three got an update.

I hope Allah will save Yusuf ... for Hindu, Buddhist or Kiranti Gods and
Goddesses certainly could not save the 12 Nepali hostages despite
the many prayers by their beloved.

Now that Yusuf is believed to be a Muslim Nepali, let's see if there
will be any outcry from the Sajhaites in this thread. The thread
is already tapering off.

Hypocrisy?

Well, I will not be the judge. You just wait and see.

Yeah more so, becaus ehe happen to be a muslim and that too from the terai, hence there is no such urgency to make hue and cry for his release. When we forget that we all represent what Nepal is, and make biasness to judge a true Nepali, the conflict will remain and ever deppen.
By, the way no words from government, politicians, atleast they can send message, call the desperate parents or relatives to assure them that no harm will befall their son, and if not true atleast pretend they are doing everything that is possible.
These dudes, don't even have the minimum sense of responsibility. Atleast the district level govt officials, some related ministers should contact the grief stricken relatives.

Where is 'Humanity' ,if it is always 'allah' and his religion to kidnap n behead people from other religion I think most of the muslims in this world will think abt their religion again. I dont give shit to terrorists Bush may not be a good choice to wipe them up but it is essential to WIPE THEM UP...make no mistake abt it.

I cant do nothing but pray for that poor soul who himself being a muslim is subjected to such an act. Arent they ending up killing more muslims( mostly Iraqis themselves) than people from any other religion.. bah, where do they have brains to think abt it.

SENSE, it is not 'allah' and their religion kidnapping foreigners in Iraq. Before you ask where is their brains, you ask yourself where is my brain? Who'se keeping hostages at gunpoint? You don't know? Geeeeee dude. Certainly not Allah and their religion who are kidnapping and beheading...like you said. I thought everybody knew that. Don't tell me you didn't know that? Geeee dude, where do u live anyway??? Inside an ash tray, is it? Oh, to think that someone named SENSE would have at least that much SENSE.

No doubt we have double standards? well, majority of us. We are so used to hearing Nepal as the only Hindu nation. Therefore, realization of the existence of various ethnic minorities (among them muslim) and their importance is a rude awakening for many. No wonder execution of 12 Hindu Nepalese in Iraq generated hue and cry, whereas capture of a Nepalese of muslim origin Iraq has not received much concern at sajha or elsewhere. Or may be it?s the number? Just one Nepali will get slaughtered?

"If" the insurgents considering his religion freed the captured Nepali, I won't be surprised to see him (a muslim!) shunned by his fellowmen for coming back alive! And may be we will get to see more anti Muslim rhetoric in sajha.

Nepali abducted in Iraq is safe: Officials (Hostage crisis update)

Foreign Ministry officials have said that Yunus Kabari, a Nepalese youth from Devpur VDC-5 in the southeastern district of Dhanusha, who was taken hostage by an insurgent group in Iraq four days ago, is safe and is in contact with the company he was working for.

The reaction from the foreign ministry officials has come following media reports that the Iraqi insurgents yesterday released Kabari. Talking to Nepalnews, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, Durga Bhattarai said, ?For the time being we can only say that Kabari is at a safe place and is in contact with the company he was working for. Hopefully he will be released. But we have yet to confirm about his release.?

However, reports said that the insurgents released Kabadi yesterday without any precondition.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat yesterday left for the United Arab Emirates to negotiate the safe release of Kabari.

Kabari was working in Saudi Arabia as a security guard with a company and had recently moved to Iraq where he was abducted by an Iraqi insurgent group. nepalnews.com amt Nov 05 04

A good news for a country that is accustomed to bad news all the time.
Thank Goodness.
I hope the ministry will ask Mr. Kabari if there are other Nepalese residing inside Iraq or not, and if yes (most probably) devise a plan to get them out.

it certainly is reassuring to know the nepali government is capable of doing some good things for its people and it is tremendously good news that he has been released. it's just a shame it took the death of 12 innocent nepalis and riots in kathmandu in order for the government to act.

or may be those Riots worked this time. Its easy to negotiate when you tell them.

Look, last time you guys killed nepalese, so many muslims were hurt, mosques burned, and you don't want that.
